Wheres the fuel filter on my 98 4.0 Sport? Is it in the tank? If it is, I'm gonna be really mad.

Yes, I believe your fuel fliter is in the tank. Sounds liek a pain.

I thought they changed it to inside the tan in the 97 + modles. I know that 96 and before are on the framerails

it is part of the fuel pump on 97+ -> i think you have to replace the whole unit but dont quote me on that

Yes it is in the tank on your 98. You replace the entire assembly. Really not that bad of a job, however it is quite expensive. For the most part, most gas these days is fairly clean and with a plastic tank its generally not a problem. If thats any consolation.

Is the filter a seperate unit inside the tank? OR is the pump with the "strainers" the filter?

1997-2001 the fuel filter is on the pump assembly inside the gas tank. I does not "need" to be replaced unless you are having problems with fuel delivery.
Your symptoms will be engine stumble or stalling on a left turn when your gas tank level is 1/4 tank or less.
