The nights out in the desert recently have been incredable!
But how long do you think that will last?
I'm booked up for the next two weeks....and by then its going to back to :flame: ing hot.
I think I might wait until September for another JV run.
Unless I'm convinced otherwise... :D

Big Bear to JV. Now that's a big leap. :D

Have you tried some of the Stoddard trails yet? It's a good place to tune up and hone the driving skills. It's also a hell of alot closer to support.

Rick, still on 33's? My local group is going out Friday night for a 33's and 35's only run and there is still room for one more...

Just make sure you have more than one spare tie rod. :D

The big event put on by Victor valley 4wheelers(fun in the desert) is coming up the end of September. This is a good time for first timers to go.

Also in November( should be 10-12) is the big naxja event.

What's out at stoddard valley? I know I've seen stuff about HDR and achy breaky but if there were some websites or something with trail descriptions/direction. I'm on 36" locked front and rear, tsl sx's and I actually just got all my parts in to put on my hysteer kit, tera knuckle alumiflex rods 1 ton ends so I'm not worried about steering any more.

Where's your group goin? Who is your group? I'd love to go, what trails/ how hard compared to say the john bull stuff?

They are mostly Toys, but they have a few Jeeps, and are great guys / girls, If you can hang with some good ole fashion sh1t talking..

You will have to register then hope that you find a run in the near future, and for god's sake you better not give the XJ a bad name lol..

Careful though, I have been to alot of private and local rock crawling / racing events and they (Tinbenders) are freakin MAD. If you hear, oh that wasnt so bad, then maybe find a bypass.... LOL

Oh heres a picture of a Bender line though Sledge

well I see that the Name tinbenders mean nada to most here or its just unknown, but they are very active in the Hammers, as well as raising large soms of $ to allow the continued use of our public trails.

In any case yeah anyone can "do" the hammers. But try to follow a bender through outer limits or such, and you will see why I brought them up..

There's not many groups that are as fun (an enjoyable to watch) as the benders. Mix one part bender and one part toyota and that is a very volotile combo. But man is it fun to watch..

Once my rockers are done and some of the exo (hopfully by nov at this rate) I will be more then happy to join ya Ben..

Sheeesh...Dave had a bad episode with an exo cage once, and he has never been the same since.
Lets not get into the exo cage debate here...:firedevil:
But....a buggy has some serious advantages in big rocks.

I will try and keep an open mind. Maybe you could help change my mind with your Idea's on the exo. How do you plan on protecting the doors without making the b-pillar
a rock anchor. Maybe you have a two door ? They just always seem to add weight with little or no real added protection

Cant really protect the "doors" them self and keep it 4dr freindly. But you Can run a roof tube at the apex of the roof lines either side tied to the gutter rails in at least 5 places each side as well as full front lower fender line and tied from a radiator hoop to the lower side rockers. Then a upper fender tube to a cowl area hoop that the roof tubes tie to, back to a rear bumper hoop. Then one more from the rear bumper over the rear tire following the fender line to the rockers. Thats about the best I think can be done. All in all what 150-175lbs in tube.

With something as basic as this you would not only preserve the body some, but allow the full structure some true ridgitness. But you are fully correct in that the doors would not be protected much. But with a nice designed rocker and roof (lower on the side of the roof/side) at least you would preverse the opening areas mostly. And more then anything build a slide area up high and down low as well as full hood area protection and rear body line.

Thats just my .02

If one is afraid of getting body damage to the point of an EXO, then one should rething the desire to explore the hammers of JV.

if you really thing that an exo is gonna do all that in JV, then your in for a suprise. JV is the kinda place that even if you double up on the condom, your still gonna get her pregnant. the hammers are that kind of a whore. the only reason you need roof protection is because your adding the weight thats gonna pull your roof closer to the rocks.
The minute I stopped carrying a spare and a tool for every possible problem, I stopped having those problems. I started wheeling a lightened jeep and I found forward progress to be easier. Rather than grinding a diff into a rock I can grind a diff over a rock and keep going. So you talk about 150-175# like its nothing. Its alot. give it a try, run a trail with 3 people in your jeep then run the same trail by yourself. night and day

3 people! Daym that only equals 150-175lbs to you? Shit my wife wieghs that alone,

I do wheel with others and alone and yes it makes a difference, so why dont you remove your bumpers? I mean you dont need them either right? Or are they already gone? I have never hit a bumper on any bolder or such, but plenty of rockers, roof lines and corners.

RWKHausSupply
August 5th, 2006, 23:34
and yeah I guess you can take easier lines. But to really get the testosterone pumping I feel liek I need to take lines that are not the "easy" one, and then once I get all fubared in, then worry about getting out. With that mentality its worth it to ME to just add protection where its needed to ensure saftey as well as allowing my doors to open / shut and the rear hatch to still function. Not to mention the corners from crushing in so easily an the radiator protected.

Again just my opinion. Oh and I see more exo rigs that are doing the most difficult JV trails then not. So,I am not alone I think... Or It could always be that I just happen to see them and thats not the true case?

It was an easy trails run. Avery and I wanted to hit more than a few trails, but with some smaller shorties in the group, it took awhile to get through at night.

The air shocks were a step closer to being right. Avery and I blew by the group on the way to the trail at a moderate 45-50 MPH. Other than some bottoming out, 3 foot whoops are no longer a problem.

Quote of the night from a shortie way back in the dust: "NAXJA fags." :D

Saturday was better.

I think Ben got his JV 101.

I flogged the livin hell outta the MJ on Backdoor. It was time for a bash test before I sort out all the stuff I shoulda had time to do right during the build.

There are acually three lines there of which the far left line is the easiest. I have made it up and then down all three and a winch is only to be used to get you off if you've broken. The way I see it, If you can't make a line without a winch, you don't belong on that particular trail.

Wow, looks like that might hurt. What all did it take out ?

It looked really bad. The pinion was pointed straight up... 90 degrees from normal. The upper passenger arm at the frame was the failure point. The frame doubling "ripped" off, mostly a material failure. The axle housing rotation took out the lower ends of the shocks, and the u bolts on the pinion.

Lifting the chassis pulled just about everything back in place, Chris welded the upper link mount in a usable location, I put caps back on the u joint and bolted it back up. The airshock shafts threaded back on the lower mounts. It took around 45 mins to get sorted out, and I was able to drive it off the trail.

It's going to get another 3 inches of wheel base. Where the ride height is settling in at, I'm closer to 103", unloaded, it's gotta be less than 100".

I sence ALOT of hostility between some here and the Tin Benders. You know when I got in to jeeping over a decade ago in a TJ there wasnt this type of drama. Its a shame that some here appear to have such issues with other groups that in such a short time have done such great things and in a way more then most, to help keep our land open to the public.

Yeah I know NAXJA has done good things and I am not trying to compare anything here. But daym theres some drama I feel here? And how can you be so hostile? towards a group (A VERY SMALL GROUP) for contribiting such many hours, money, blood sweat and fab work, to help YOU ALL as well as myself the continued enjoyment of out public land, as well as trying to fight to open previously public land.

As far as JV I could Care Fawking less if you think I am doing it the way you would, I am research and sitting back, Once I bought this XJ back around nov I sat and read and researched on what was different and such from the XJ to what I had in a TJ.

Ok well to all you too cool people out there, I think you should be on pirate more then here, unless your trying to bring pirate mentality in to this. And yeah yeah your medators and such. and your gods to some. But sorry I dont see it that way and yes I paid for a memebership here even before I bought my XJ. SO go a head and through your drama out there, since it makes ya feel better about your self..

Seriously though, I'm the one who should be mad....all these guys driving hundreds of miles to go to a place 60 miles from me without an invite..... Shameful.

Just remember, those elitist remarks are coming from guys whose XJs have become lighter an more efficient from parts being destroyed and ripped from the uniframe at JV over the course of years. I agree that there was some advise in this thread, although mostly (or all) tongue-in-cheek.

You'll always be welcome to wheel with us....it really is a great bunch of guys to hang with. I hope WE ALL get over this petty shit slinging session without the taste of shit in our mouths in the end. Probably a tall order for such a lively crew, but it really was intended to poke a little fun.

I think I'm rambling ..... Hopefully my point wasn't lost along the way.

BTW, I've done a whole bunch more damage to my junk at Truckhaven doing stupid stuff, than anywhere including the Hammers.

Dude your pushing it there. Others that maybe try to be a bender (like my self say, but I would never leave any trash) may be the ones yrou refering to. Maybe do a little research before bashing a very ligit and VERY GIVING! club! Now you can say I am "sack riding", but it is only because they decerve! all the respect they earn.

Just so I know.. Whens the last time or who else has ever, donated all the man hours and coord. hours to find a stock rig, then fully build one of the most capable rigs, all they while they are at a national event where they shoud be enjoying the terrain like everyother person out there, but instead they spend thier time walking around trying to get donations $ for raffle tickets, Just so they can donate the $ and the Time and the Rig for US ALL? That one show of effort at TDS last yr was More then I see 99% of the clubs out there, doing for fund raising so we ALL can enjoy public trails and more so the reopening of lost trails.

But hey if you want to Bash them thats on you and shows your Ignorance..... I will say its true though that they are a crowd that can be very verbal and insulting at times on the trail. But they also (unless they have changed in the last 5 months) will give you any part you need just as though they were a Fellow Jeeper (or atleast like some of us) out on the trail, and even take over the repair if you dont know what your doing..

Now back to the praising of the NAXJA crew since I know I just pissed off oll the hardcore members here that think NAXJA is the only club worth crap?

That would be NAXJA, 2003 in Moab for the Fall Fling. That year was the 20th anniversay of the introduction of the XJ. To celebrate, the Southeast Chapter bought and built an XJ. Virtually every component, save for the engine and transmission were replaced with aftermarket accessories.
More than 175 rigs were registered that year and the Southern California chapter served more than 300 meals at the award dinner on Friday night.

Very COOL! I didnt know that. I have read on past events and just never saw a post in regards to that happening. But only 175? Was it only open to XJ/Mj 's? The jambo that the TB gave thier last rig away was 209 participants registered, but they are open to any make / model,. Oh and so you know if you didnt already, they are making it a normal occurance to build one per yr now from what it looks like.

Listen dude.. no one really gives a hoots ass about the TBs. We donate more of everything than they do, but we are also national. They do not own JV, they dont any trail. No one owns any one trail. We all SHARE and USE EQUALLY. We all should fight for the same cause. You coming here spouting off about things YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE on does not do any one person any good at all. So please, just sit back, learn, show up to events, come wheeling with us, go wheeling with TBs, just wheel. THEN tell us what we do or don't know. Ok?
