We're approaching the run in Hot Springs for Labor day weekend. This isn't an official Naxja RRC event but several of us are going to be there. I'd like to take this opportunity to find out who will be there, what their rig capabilities are, and if you guys would like to have a nice campfire on Saturday night.
I'm asking what rig capabilities are so that we can determine if we would like to wheel as a group. Our first official "unofficial" trail run.
Kendrik will be there and he's on 31"s locked both ends. I'm gonna be pointing him toward 3's and 4's He's never been there before but I've broken a few parts there.:gee:
I'll bring spare shafts (d30 and 35) control arms, and my tools so I will have a mobile workstation in case anyone breaks anything.

Looking forward to meeting ya'll

How long of a drive is it?
goodburbon
August 15th, 2007, 11:58
I assume FW means Fort Worth? If so 4.5-5 hours.

August 15th, 2007, 14:40

goodburbon
August 15th, 2007, 14:44

I am in Texarkana, AR and I am thinking about heading up there. I am running 4.5 and 33's. Locked rear, open front. Not sure what trails I will be running though.

You guys are heading out on Thursday to head up there?? Most likely i won't be able to make it up until Friday. Haven't decided if I would rather bring the camper, or just get a hotel while I am there though.

August 15th, 2007, 19:06
Do most people camp?
Is lodging close to the trails? Anyone have names of lodging?
uniquexjbannon
August 15th, 2007, 20:39
Heading up late thurs. There are places to camp there and around town (dont know how much will still be avalible?)..but for the most part if ur looking for lodging, people stay at the Knights Inn or Days Inn (could be Something else) up the road. Anything close to Magic Springs Amusement Park. Hope it helps

stayed at the rodeway inn last weekend, its nothing special but was only about 60$ a night, wont find anything else much cheaper. Good luck to those camping, it was hotter there than here.

Are the NAXJA people meeting up anyplace? Is there a core place most people stay or camp?
uniquexjbannon
August 16th, 2007, 07:42
At the base of the park, where u check in, is pretty much the main area if we're going to meet up. Going to be alot of people their, so need to find an exact place/time if so...not that the BIG grp of xj's wont give it away!!!
goodburbon
August 16th, 2007, 09:07
Right. You have the most unique XJ in the group so I think gathering near your rig would make the most sense. The park gates technically open at 9 am every morning. So I am thinking at about 8:30 Friday and Saturday morning we should gather informally so that any newcomers Saturday won't be lost. We should also probably designate a contact person (cell service is sketchy there) and PM the number to members coming to meet us so they can find us if we are out on the trails.

I would like to go, I can leave thursday or friday...it looks to be about a 5 hour drive for me from Fort Worth. If anyone else is going from my area let me know. Is the camping pretty good there? I would prefer to tent camp.
x2elite
August 16th, 2007, 13:19
There is alot of space for tent camping in/around Hot Springs.

I think with liberal use of a sawzall I can fit the 33" MTR's under the eclipse.
Jay VT
August 16th, 2007, 13:51
I wish I knew who invented the sawzall, its does magical things to a rig. I used mine to put 40's on a 79 K5 with only 4" of lift.

I love the Sawzll myself....one of the best tools ever invented.

Are rock guards needed here? If so, any local venders have good ones?
goodburbon
August 17th, 2007, 13:51
They are highly advised. Check the Vendors forum and check our sponsors. Kendrik and I are using JCR stage 2 rock rails and I have a set of Rockratz rocker guards. I recommend the JCR.

August 17th, 2007, 21:10
Yes it would be a good idea to get some. The last time I was at the park, one of my friends that I wheel with smashed his pinch seam while on "The Gorge". It didn't destroy his rocker, but it bent the seam over. He has sliders now.

Yeah I was "that friend" lol. I run 4.5" and 33's and that was the first time I ever did that. I would really recommend them tho. I'll be there at around 8:30am.

I have been online all day, and have yet to find a campground near hot springs that has any rv sites available. There are a few tent sites here and there, but I would like to bring my pop up.

They have power hook ups at the park. There is also a koa campground a few miles from the park. Probably all booked solid though.

Went by the park Saturday to check on some trails and check out my new GPS setup. All camp and RV sites are full for this weekend. Might try the KOA or J&J ( or maybe its JJ's) RV park across the highway.

I think there was 1 primitive site left at the time.
You can give BJ a call at 501-625-3600 to see if its still open.

You should contact the park office to check / reserve a primitive (tent) site if you plan to camp. Sounds like they are pretty slim pickings right now, though.

Since the time is approaching, I figured I'd pull this back out. I'm sending a PM with my cell number to all members who plan to be at the park this weekend. I'm driving up Thursday night and will be at the park by 8:30 AM or so on Friday morning. I'll be on CB Channel 14 for both the drive up and in the park in the morning as an alternate contact method, as well.

Well since there aren't many camping accomodations available.... I might just come up for the day on Saturday or Sunday (its only about an hour and a half or so drive for me) instead of doing the whole weekend. However, when I do come up I'll make sure to have my cb on channel 14 as well, so I can try to catch up with you guys.
