Looking and returning to the sport/hobby. Woman said my balls must have dropped finally. I used to be in downhill. It's been a while though. Not looking to endure anymore downhill falls or shattered shins. Moderate trail riding, ok downhill, hardly any road riding... All that and spend under $1000... Any one got any idea?

Look used or build a frame up. Kona bikes are nice.

My buddy has an 04' Cannondale Chase II... Hydro brakes and all the goodies. But, it's a freeride hardtail so... Not so trail friendly... Not quite sure

True and even if you end up cracking the frame they use good components you can reuse later, if need be.

Someone referred me to Ironhorse bikes. I was weary because Dick's sold them... along with the infamous Jeep bikes. All I was gonna do is gusset the frame where it cracks. Right now at the Dick's around me they're $200 off and can get a $600 one for $399...

So... hardtail or full suspension?
1000.00 will get you a good entry level bike but I'd look used or ebay (if you know what you're looking at/for).
