All, well it looks like the ins company is going to total the truck. Appearently there is no undercarriage or it is severly bent. I will get pics tomorrow when I am there retrieving my pers stuff.

Now am I looking for an excursion. The year I am looking for is a 02 or 03 with the 7.3 diesel. Options could vary but the diesel it the important one. Keep your eyes posted in the near future.

My neighbor has an 2001 100k onit with a bad #8 cyclinder & Turbo. He would probably make you a killer deal on it. I tried to tell to buy a motor off eaby (under 5k with trans) & just drop in & be done. If your interested I will get his # & PM it to you.

Jodi's uncle works for ford, he can get me all the TSB for the excursion. The problem lied when the 6.6 ltr motor was introduced in 03. They downgraded the tranny and motor and with that heavy of a truck it had problems.

The 7.3 is virutally bullet proof. A good friend has a 2000 dually 4x4 with 315k and no problems. His is a stick tho.

turbo tube fires and bypass valve failures are common (for vehicles that tow heavy loads or are weighted down in a big way) on the 7.3 when I worked for the crane company we had 3 of the fires in 3 separate trucks and the 2 others had the bypass valve stick and fried the valves from running lean. Ive also read about the 6.6 having a whole lota issues

I know the turbo valve was an issue and was a recall on the 7.3. Bad pressure spring. Also the exhaust from the header needed expansion for the flow and the computer reprogrammed for the lean condition. Those I was aware of. If they were not taken care of by the owner or they dont know I can contact ford with the vin to see what recalls have been done. The 6.6 is not even an option, I would not even wipe my, well with the floor mats.

I never thought I would read "looking for an excursion"

I have a 2000, but with a V-10. What a pig that thing is.

The only time I like that car is when we load the family up, hook up the trailer and hit the highway. Ever since I picked up the XJ for my kid, the thing has been sitting in the driveway.

Never did enjoy the thing, but I guess looking back it has held up pretty well. I had early battery problems that lasted for years with the dealer installing 3 batteries under warranty in the first 3 years. When the third one died, I finally disconnected the dealer installed security device and stuck an optima in there. No problems since.

Also got the death wobble on the thing at about 70K miles. Changed the tie rod, so far so good.

It is one hell of a strong and heavy truck. Kind of fun to be loaded with 8 people, rear compartment packed to the roof, pulling a fully loaded boat and flying past Camrys on the upgrades!!

I went and looked that truck today and virtually everything from the front doors to the bumper and from the hood to the wheels needs to be replaced. The frame is bent on the drivers side in two places. I dont know what the ins companies do about bent frames.

I know that if you get a ding and get it repaired it is 1000k bucks. So IYO what do you think ?

from what you said on the phone its done, unless they think it will be cheaper to fix it then pay it off, which I doubt. frame damage like you described will never be 100% repaired and will always give you alighnment problems.

The 7.3 is virutally bullet proof. A good friend has a 2000 dually 4x4 with 315k and no problems. His is a stick tho.

It is actually a 6.0 Liter and for 2008 it is the 6.4 liter. The 7.3 was a little large for the Super Duty engine compartment and they were having trouble getting a good exhaust off of it. Guys were (and still are) hammering the firewall in to make room for striaght 3-5" exhaust. The 7.3 has noticably less power than the 6.0 but the 6.0 has a straight 3" exhaust all the way through and really can haul ass. The 6.4 has even more power but Ford is still using the 6.0 liter in the Econoline Vans since the 6.4 is too tall for the van.

The 6.0 liter was a little iffy at first. Ford has worked extremely hard to get the 6.0 liter up to par and has actually sued International for the costs of working out the solution(s). By now (since ALL of the diesels come with a 100K warranty) Ford has fixed most if not all the issues. The 7.3 is probably more reliable but the 7.3 comes with the shitty tranny. Do your research and the Torqueshift tranny is on par as far as reliability as the Allison (not the downgraded tranny as you ignorantly claimed). The Torqueshift tranny is so 'heavy duty' that there is really no 'upgraded parts' available with them since no one is really having any issues. Year one and two of the Torqueshift they had 'speed holes' in the rear output ring but they made it solid for year three and still ship it with the 6.4L today (the 6.4L has 100 lb-ft more torque too over the 6.0). Look into 'upgraded' 7.3 auto tranny parts and you'll find a ton of them and they still don't hold up all that well.

The 7.3 auto tranny has had more than its fair share of issues and tends to blow up easily. I wouldn't recommend getting a 7.3 with the automatic since the auto is 'issue-prone' but I would say go stick if at all possible. With a stick, the 7.3 would be your most reliable option. I wouldn't touch the 7.3 auto tranny at all.

Tim is actually a really good driver. We put him through my race clubs street performance driving school. We teach basic car control and how to handle emergency manouvers with out dramatic affects. He admits that this school helped him in regaining control of the truck. However getting punted twice then getting thrown on the guardrail was beyond his control.

My wife wants you to make her an offer... 02 X with the 7.3, ATS exhaust from the turbo back. Tymar intake with edge evolution tuner. Xmonitor gauges on the pillar & an extra deep pan on the tranny. The car has been well cared for though it does show closer to 200K than 100K on the OD. The car is still running the original tranny & shifts just like butter.

Make the offer real low as I want to keep it... I can't afford the insurance on the SRT-8 she wants to get instead either...

The truck was taken to the dealer yesterday and they started on it today for the initial repair. The inshurance co estimated just over 8k for the fix but the dealer told us that it would be much higher, based on what the shop says it might be around 13-15k. The ins company can only estimate what they can see. They will get the revised estimate for total repairs later this week. They are stripping it completely down and taking it to a facility in sanbdo to check the frame. If the frame is not bent then the repair process will start. All new parts will be used and they guarntee the repairs for the life of the truck. If there is a problem with alignments or parts coming loose no matter what the mileage is it will be repaired. The repair time if the frame is ok is in the window of 10-12 weeks. If the frame is bent the ins co will total the truck and we will move forward.

The person who hit him, his ins company is non responsive and refuses accept responsibility but that will be handled by my ins co. The police report is not out yet but should be any day now. Once the determanation of fault is clarified then we will go after them for other out of pocket $$$. He hit 2 cars and totaled his own and sent one of the drivers to the hosp with major head injuries. His ins company told us that they will fight this tooth and nail. They also called and wanted a statement from tim. We were advised to not allow tim to talk to them that if they wanted info they needed to refer to the police report. They sed that they had the right to talk to him, we sed he is a minor and that if they wanted to talk to him they had to talk to our attourney, they conviently hung up.

Well this is the jist of where we are now, more to follow...(16)

dude sereously get a lawyer now and get him to get on it. If they wana talk to a minor they have the right but only with a parental permission so dont sweat that. his insurance company will fight it and they will loose but every dollar they save is another one they can keep so if they can get any sort of fault to go on anyone else they will. I been there when I got rearended. lady fell asleep in traffic and floored it into the back of my dad's truck. It took them 3 years to settle because she kept saying I backed up into her (on the 405 at 3pm) to her insurance. the cops and witnesses all said she hit me and the cop even had pics of the tire marks on the pavement from her spinning them after she hit me. Luckily I wasnt hurt and it didnt involve anyone else but the guy your driver sent to the hospital is gona get a lawyer so you might as well get in line too. youll be surprised how nice the insurance company will be when your lawyer calls them

I bet his insurance isnt enough to cover the damages

We are still waiting on the police report to finalize, we are at 13 business days now. We are renting a H2 to pull the horse trailer. So far we are out about 2500 until they determine fault.
