why is it cutting out??

i can run my 93 4.0 for a couple miles then it starts to miss and cut out around 4k. and when it starts this the engine light comes on? whats the deal? i just replaced the wires plugs fuel filter and other common things as it is a new vehicle for me. any suggestions?
