Cruise Control Modifications

I've been tossing around the idea of modifying the factory cruise so that it becomes a throttle lock, as opposed to a speed lock. In order to do this, I'm going to need to muck around in the wiring. Attached are 2 wiring diagrams, straight from the FSM, hot from the photocopier at the local Jeep dealer....

According to the diagrams, the only wire I should need to disconnect would be the one from the VSS, correct?? This *should* allow me to set the cruise at my desired engine speed (since I don't have SGII to tattle on TPS readings), and leave it there until I touch the brake pedal. The brakes should still disable the cruise.

Does this make any sense to you folks, or am I just blowing sunshine up my proverbial skirt??

Both your links are bad, and I think it might be possable to do that on an older xj, but the 97+ (and you didn't mention your year) had the cruse computer built into the PCM. It's basicly plug, and play if you don't already have one.

Sorry about the links...been a long day. They're fixed now.

Also. The rig is an 89 XJ Limited, 4.0L w/AW4/NP242/etc.....

I believe that the "brains" of the CC are in that bright yellow box marked AMC under my dash, correct??
