poppet valve

In my FSM under the steering section diagnostics for excessive wheel kickback or loose steering the FSM states that the poppet valve is a possible culprit.

Where is this valve located and what does it do? I have seen no other reference to it in the manual.

i think it is in the power steering gear, it lets fluid in and out acourding to the steering wheel movement.
