New Group Seeks Tougher Penalties For Off-Roaders 07-17-2007 7:04 AM
(Tucson, AZ) -- A group of former government workers is pushing for tougher penalties for off-road drivers who trample natural resources. The newly-formed Rangers for Responsible Recreation claims off-road vehicles are the top threat to public lands. The group is using data from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to back up their claim. The group is pushing for heftier fines, confiscation of off-road vehicles, and suspension of hunting and fishing licenses. Off-road vehicle enthusiasts stress that many of them promote safe riding to preserve access to trails. One rider says it is usually a small group who spoils it for everyone.

Funny, one of the articles says this (about romping in Idaho),
"Between 2002 and 2006, off-road vehicle registration grew 65 percent to 116,881. Eastern Idaho had the second largest number of these machines of any region in the state, with 16,652. Only the Treasure Valley had more."
observation to take from this...TONS of people enjoy this sport. This land is just as much ours as it is any whacko biologist tree hugger assplug's. I never wheel with people that are disrespectful to the land. And I bring extra garbage bags to clean up other peoples' junk as well as I'm sure some of you do.
I'm sure these guys have good intentions, but I'm not impressed with their start.

I agree with mdub, these people really need to get there facts straight instead of trampling the 4x4 groups. All the people I have wheeled with have always left the trails nicer than when we started.

When you get a ton of "experts" and "EX-government employees" together, I would be highly suspect of the facts, intentions or outcome!!

Well said. Likely some special interests tied into the whole mess. Probably even the tree huggers being fleeced. They sign up to help shut everything down, then developers have an easier path in. Everyone loses in the end.
Maybe Bush will let us romp on the moon !

I just sat down a typed a nice little I agree with more efforts to enforce the rules you have now, but stop bashing the ones that do what you ask comments. I think we should all send a comment to this effect to their web site. They have advised me they will respond in 24 hours. Does this mean I need to start prepping for combat?

I wouldn't recommend provoking them. We don't want NAXJA on their radar. I think intelligent dialogue is most prudent. I don't think it pays to talk with them at all though. They have made up their minds. My opinion is we just keep doing what we are doing the right way. Support politicians that protect our rights and don't trample them and inhibit them.
AZDESERTRHINO for President ! haha.

RANT- ON
Are you talking about when WE cleaned up a mess that WASNT ours? Now why would they care about that? I could care less about these tree hugging bastages. They dont wanna listen to the truth. They want to pick a fight they can win. So they go after the popular groups and not the jackasses that actually screw up the trails.
I for one dont think it is a bad thing for us to show them what we do. Bring the nedia along, I dont care. But on any given day, I would like them to show me how many shooters leave there crap everywhere and how many 4 wheelers leave there crap everywhere?
Sorry, but this just strikes a cord with me and pisses me off. 2 weeks after picking up Reddington pass, it was trashed AGAIN!!! I was just up there last weekend and it looks worse than before. Funny thing is, not 1 jeeper was there trashing it either.
RANT OFF.....
