Has anyone come up with a better way of carrying a float tube on your XJ than just strapping it on the roof rack? My pontoon flaps around in the wind alot and I'm afraid I'm gonna rip it up, plus it really creates a lot of drag!

I've never seen it carried any other way. Most of the time, they're not getting carried that far around here.

Strap it on your roofrack with a well-secured tarp over top of it. Worked for me on a very long trip...

I used to carry mine on the roof, but it was really heavy to put up there so I got a trailer for it!

Just kiddin', Im glad to see that other people on here have other expensive hobbies besides fixing thier Jeeps!

You do realize that he's talking about a small one man (maybe 2) boat and not a party boat "pontoon"? Something that costs about 350ish. No where near what you've got tied up in that bass boat.

FishnCarz...you got a trolling motor for that thing?

No motor but my fins. I have an older Caddis Pontoon kick boat I bought at Cabelas on the way back from Yellowstone about 10 years ago. I like the idea of putting a tarp over it to hold it down and help air slip over it better. I'll give that a try. I saw a rig on a big motor home that had a rack on the back to carry two pontoons with rowing frames flat against the back of the rig. If the tarp doesn't work like I want I may get a cheap hitch-haul and fab somethin' up.

It's gonna be 100 degrees here today, so I'm gonna be in the water somewhere!!

That's EXACTLY what I was thining about yesterday. The only problem with that idea is that the rack might be fairly fixated to your rig. I personally wouldn't care about it b/c I'd probably use the thing a good amount of time. I bet it wouldn't move around much at all on the back of your Jeep.
