I was just thinking about where the weak link is in my rig. I have a front HPD44 and a D60 rear end i'm not to worried about breaking axles. but i am a bit worried about breaking a tcase. about how big of a tire would you guys run on a 231 before you would worry about breaking it. just some thoughts.

It really depends on wheather or not you're still running a stock(or stock style) rear out put shaft. To tell ya the truth, I've seen just as many stock style 231 out put shafts break as Dana35 axle shafts break.
Edit, and I've seen a lot of D35s break. ;)
All were with 33 or 35" tires.

that's why I was postin' about a certain dana 60 yoke not too long ago.....

I WANNA run the 1310 u-joint.....

I wanna break it first.

it *should* serve as a bit of a fuse, but that doesn't mean that you can't break a mainshaft......

seen a few mainshafts break before the 1310......including Bones' break on 2xwhamey last year at moab......

I'm gonna carry a spare shaft that's for sure!

Thanks for the input all.

My tcase has an AA SYE kit in it and i belive they said that it is stronger than stock.

Marc,

I have given up on the old one. however i just bought a new one on monday. it is an 88' limited with power everything and a sunroof. and i got it for a steal of a deal 400$. can't beat it so i will hopefully have it lifted with all my old stuff in time for Moab.

thanks again.
