What is a good way to trim out the rear fenders?

Take the sawzall or a Datco and cut up to the seam, every 1-3 inches. Pound up with a hammer, leaving no sharp edges. A few pics.

i did the same. used a 4.5" grinder with a cutoff wheel though. take off the lame stock fender flares and then cut up to the seam. i cut every about 2 inches and then pounded them around with a big hammer. then sprayed the inside of the wheel well with some rubberized undercoating to keep it from rusting.

No need to make so many cuts. I only made two.

I plan on doing them Bushwhacker style, but with the stock flares put back on.

so easy a cave kid can do it....

i used some fiber glass bondo to smooth it out after beating it with a BFH. then painted and undercoated to finish it off.
