just wanted to throw out there that i have been working on a logo... hope to have some examples for critique soon...
i'd post one now but i started working under the assumption the chapter would encompass TX & LA... adding OK will require some changes...

I think the logo is a fine project but the wording is a long was from being cast in stone yet. So work on something with an XJ on it but wording to be added when it is finalized.

I like the second one. What about doing that with all 4 flags and then once a chapter name is decided we can put that in place.

You're heading in the right direction. How about the four state picture as a background maybe?
I suck at creativity though. Are those about the colors you're wanting to use?

if it isn't too much work, try making the tire 3D, spinning, with mud or dirt spraying out of the back. bag it if it sounds too complex

wow... good ideas everyone...
JayVT... getting the text to wrap at the right degree isn't too hard but getting the right font and bevel is a lot of hit & miss... like the simple TX LA example, i find it hard to read... but there's a combination that will work, just have to find it...
Big Daddy... i really like the idea of the state flags instead of text... look for that in the next versions...
Dirt... i've been looking for a good picture of the 4 state area to use which may replace the XJ in the middle... i have smaller XJ's to use like bullet points between text on the sidewall just to keep the jeep on there... edit: good map but i'll need one with better state borders but that's definitely on track... i give google images a work out tonite...
Higgs... great idea and definitely the toughest to get done but i like it and will experiment and see what happens...
gimme a few days/end of the week to get back with some revisions

I definitely agree. Working the state flags was a great idea, so if we can get all 4 flags then I'd vote for that one in a heartbeat.
Or we could kick Oklahoma and Arkanasas out and stick with it as it is! ;)

Hmm...I'm having second thoughts about that. Has anyone SEEN the Arkansas and Oklahoma state flags? Yikes...
http://www.50states.com/flag/arflag.htm
http://www.50states.com/flag/okflag.htm
Not to bash anyone's state, but those flags just don't look like a WHOLE lot of thought went into them.
Maybe if we could take the symbols out of the LA, AR, and OK flags and overlay them onto the Texas Flag?
Ecomike
July 10th, 2007, 11:31
I think the Texas flag is quite unique as it was an indepent country before it joined the USA, so a lot more went into the Texas flag than the state flags ever got in general.
Four flags is probably going to be too busy, and quite frankly I am not sure I have ever even seen any other state flags that I even recall.
Just my opinion.
Great work and input going on here, sounds like we are going to have a great logo soon.
rokclimbertx
July 10th, 2007, 12:50
another problem with all 4 state flags will be the cost of getting more colors on the sticker/t-shirts, etc... so unfortunately i don't think the flags will make it to the final version...
but having the 4 state area map outline should also give the chapter instant recognition... plus not a lot of colors to deal with...
i'm hoping to get some time at work today or the next to get some extra work done on it as well as search some of our resources for material...

I actually think the LA flag is the coolest one, but that could just be from years of staring at it. ;)
I'm sure rokclimbertx will come up with something, considering how amazing his rough drafts turned out!
On a related note, this may be a bit premature, but has anyone looked into what it takes to get shirts, stickers, etc. printed with the logo? Personally, I think CafePress (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/) is the best bet for our relatively low requirements. I would guess this is something the treasurer would manage, considering it involved financials.

ultimately i think having one logo that will work on those color shirts you mentioned is the best way to go... else we may incur extra costs if a second logo to accommodate certain color shirts is needed... and it may be necessary to not include either black or white shirts due to color elements

I like the added red underneath the jeep on this version, in other words this is the best version with out considering color. The Jeeps just look weird in the earlier versions with out the added color completing the circle underneath the jeeps.

Ecomike... on that version, when i decided to add the chapter formation date below the jeep, the jeep needed a little nudge upwards to keep the text in line circular-wise with the chapter name area...
i agree it looks better than the previous 3 examples...
i think i'm gonna hold working on this until we have our chapter name finalized and chapter status is approved... i don't think there's gonna be much improved over the above version... it's all about colors now...
hope everyone agrees this version rocks and should be the final...
Ecomike
July 14th, 2007, 12:27
On the final one I think it would look even better if the Jeep was blue, instead of black. The white to black contrast on the jeep seems too bright, or maybe the Jeep outline is just not quite sharp enough (could even be just the computer monitor JPG/RGP display color/ resolution of the image...might look fine on a dull white T shirt. Don't know if a third color is an option.
Other than that, the entire thing looks great! Great Job!

rokclimbertx
July 15th, 2007, 02:21
the jeep outline is certainly not sharp enough... i'm using a cutout from a color photo then tweaking it to b/w... it's not great at all... i had no luck finding good free (or otherwise) cherokee line/clip/anything art... if anyone has or knows where i can get a better jeep to use, preferably in the same "pose" i'll gladly substitute...
that last example is a 2 color job that should be cheaper to have printed, sticker or t-shirt... and getting colors that will work for more t-shirt colors means some more experimenting... but still keeping the colors down to 2 or 3...
once we have the design agreed upon, then we can work on the exact colors we need...

thanks RMS.. i took a look at theirs... it's close to what i'd like but i think something less hand drawn looking would match or fit into our logo a bit better...
Ecomike, i though about and made a blue and red jeep in the rough drafts but they just didn't fit visually in my opinion... if you or anyone would like to see those examples i'll gladly post some...
for now, here's an updated logo with some work done to the jeep... this will have 3 tshirt colors as background so you can see how it's gonna look... for the black & white tshirts it's a 3 color design (red, blue, white... red, blue, black respectively)... on the grey and others it'll be a 4 color design...

My only suggestion would be to have the Jeep a completely different color that would set it apart from the surrounding black. Maybe yellow or orange would work. Since this is an XJ/MJ association the Jeep should be a major focus of the logo IMHO.

Unless National makes a startup donation, we'll need to get some dollars in from everyone before we start putting together the logo stuff. Chances are we'll ask for donations up front to help cover some of the intial costs to get the printing setup, but we haven't discussed that, yet. As soon as we get the BOD and bylaws submitted and become "official" we'll get more details for you guys on the logo.
