Would it be a good idea (I am sure its been done) to mount off road lights directly to the roof rack or is a light bar absolutely needed?

it tried it. but failed. my drill just isnt powerful enough. there is a real thick peice of metal going through the tube. i would say with a powerful enough drill yes it could be done

havent done it but im sure itll work i never looked at my rack but i think id try to use hose clamps to pinch the bracket rather than drilling just in case you dont want to do any permenant damage

I used an electric drill and was able to drill through my stock luggage bars. BUT.......they are very flemsy and i had to slide my bar up against my roof rack and use some zip ties to hold them in place.
