Anybody have a spare XJ front Dana 44 that they like to sell. I'm tired of exploding Dana 30 axle joints.

I did loads of research on this about 5 years ago, unless you have really good connections in Daimler/Chrysler or you ship one up from South America, they are VERY hard to track down. And if you do find one, it will be a Rubicon front axle, so not much gain over a D30.

I must have recieved some sketchy info then. I was told that the 4cyl. 5-speed cherokee's had front 44's. I guess I'll just have to build one then. thanks.

I'm running a chrysler 8.25 with 4.56's with a no-slip. 33x10.5-15 BFG m/t
-dana 30 4.56 with a lockrite= exploding axle joints

South American made 44's are around but you really have to search to get one.... for the amount of effort vs. what you get back, maybe something a little stronger is what you want

dodge 8.25 with lockright and dana 30 with the arb and 4.56 gears work very well for me so far.

Axle's straight. Spicer joints. factory shafts.... I don't want to invest in Moly axles because I figured I'd start blowing the ring and pinion. I don't have any problems when crawling in the rock, but when I start slipping in the mud, wet roots, and gravel... when finesse' isn't an option... I grenade them.

Have you thought about running 35's?

RANSOM
July 2nd, 2007, 19:07
not yet. my goal in the next year is a full cage, 37's, front 9", rear 8.8, blown 4.6 stroker, convertible soft top.

The D44 is just a temporary fix... I figured I could just bolt it in with a new ring/pinion and get by.

like robz said something is wrong your setup should work fine.I don't thing a d44 is going to fix it.

We can only wish we had them in Mexico, they did came in Xjs in Sudamerica, but were very much like the rubicon Axle.

Some day iŽll man up and put a D44HP with d60 outers under my Xj.

Were the South American Front Dana 44's low pinion or HP? If LP, then just buy a rubi front, same damn thing, if HP it might be worth the effort to find one. I know Currie, at one time, was selling them, but don't remember the details.

I grenade them.If your joints are blowing in that kind of stuff, then there's definitely something wrong. It means they're breaking more from changes in load, speed, or just wearing out than from actual large loads or binding. I'd double check the housing, the C's, and your ball joints to make sure everything is to spec. I let my ball joints go for a while and I'm pretty sure it's what sped up the demise of an 8 month old 760 joint.

Also, are you reusing the same shafts that you've blown joints with before? Stock axles are pretty much disposable. When the joints go the ears are easily damaged/misaligned, even if they look to be straight still. Any new joint in the old shafts is going to fail even sooner.
