Hello,
Would you believe I actually missed this place? :D My internet access went belly up last week in North Carolina, so we just left it dead as we were moving soon. Beats the hell outta calling India for tech support. I checked in once in a while at the Business Center... but not too much.

Anyhow, we are now in Hoboken. Looking out my 11th floor window has a nice view of New York City and the Hudson. That is a spectacular view... when the haze it not so bad. LOL. Being on the waterfront is nice though.

Really enjoying Hoboken. Lots to do, amazing amount of food joints, clubs/bars/shops, etc.... great place to walk around. New Jersey is certainly not as bad as everybody makes it out to be... well, Jersey City is a pit, IMHO... ;)

Internet and cable TV got turned on last night. Great speeds, really digging that. :) Our furniture does not arrive for another week and a half or so... but sleeping on the floor is not all that bad. hehee

Lots to do, then catching up around here. But wanted to drop in and say 'Hey!" yo you guys/gals.

Theres alot to do around there. Some high points:
Rutts Hutt, at the intersection of Rt3 and Rt21, it received the #2 spot in the 'best hot dogs' in the US, beat out by some dino shaped shop out west... interesting atmosphere too...
NJ is known for it's diners, open 24x7 and usually packed once the bars close, it's the stop before no tell motel time...
Malls, man theres a ton of them, big ones too, willowbrook in wayne and Paramus has a whole bunch.
Good prices on Jeeps which you may not be used to.
Also check out the schedule for the meadowlands, they have alot of computer shows during the week from Intel, AMD, Sun, HP, IBM, Microsoft, etc, pro shows not swap meets.
Ironbound section of newark for dynamite foods from different nationalities, right between jersey city and newark.

Welcome to NJ.

That's for sure - the ones run by the Greek fellows seem to be especially good. Diners are an institution in this state.

Since you're in Hoboken, check out the Malibu Diner at 14th and Willow - the food's good, the menu's thick, and the prices are reasonable. Parking might be difficult, but being in town you can just hike it.

Hoboken's also a good place for some of the best Pizza this side of the Hudson River. Benny Tudino's on the 700 block of Washington is a local legend, and Giovanni's over at 6th and Washington isn't bad either. Overall, there are probably more bars, pizza shops, and chinese take-out places per capita in Hoboken than anywhere else in NJ.

If you're looking for other places to gawk at NYC from, head up onto Castle Point (Stevens Campus) and go out on the Point by the cannon (no, it doesn't shoot).

If you're into history stuff, go over the river and check out the U.S.S. Intrepid, or head for Camden for the Battleship NJ.

Rob

P.S. Rich, you still get over to Rutt's from time to time? If so, give me a shout some time if you'd like to meet for lunch - I work literally down the street from there. Give me a day's notice, and I can even bring the XJ (the TDI's my usual DD)

I don't get down there any where near as much as I want, got a mon-fri gig here in pa, allentown, so as long as that lasts. I do want to get into NYC a few times once the weather cools off a bit, sept/oct but now with my daughter going to temple and living in philly I got a feeling my weekends are going to lean more towards cheese steaks and reading market.

Ah, you're in one of the newer buildings then - I think that may have been part of the Maxwell House factory at one time.

Good luck in the new digs.

Rich - I guess with your daughter going to college you're changing your nationality to "check" now? Anyway, do drop me a line if you happen to be heading this way (just watch out for I-78 in Union, they're within a week of shutting the entire Express lanes both ways from RT24 to the GSP until December - you probably heard the commuters screaming all the way up by your place when DOT bushwacked us with the news on Monday).

Yes, brand new building. Part of it is still under construction. I was amazed to find rental occupancy here in Hoboken to be near %100.

The Maxwell House stuff is just South of me by a block or 3. We are in the "Shipyard" complex.

Judging by the website for the area you described, it seems you are doing just fine....and I was worried.

Actually the fishing is pretty good out on the hudson now that all the factorys and such have been gone for over 30 years. You shoulda been in there a few weeks ago for the 4th of july stuff, that would be a million dollar view. Hows the parking situation ? does it come with it or is it extra ?

You will have to take a trip down south jersey to the pine barrens and wheel Wharton state forest.

Yeah, would have been quite the sight to see on the 4th. However, we had a great 4th in Durham... I really liked Durham. Nice place.

The water actually does not look bad. Lots of people throwing crab pots out of the pier in front of the building.

Parking is hit and miss, but not as bad as west of Washington St. We pay extra for parking, but our indoor parking garage will not be completed for another two weeks, so we use an outdoor lot.

After I get a job and can buy a rig, I plan on it. :)

Mmmm, Rutts. I haven't been up there in awhile. Nothing beats a Ripper and High Life.

Should've moved there a month ago. Then we could've had a few beers or twelve when Holly and I were in NYC ;)

Glad you finally got here Glenn - you'll have plenty to do for awhile, but when you're finally looking for a change of pace, take up everybody's offers to get out and around - you don't have to go very far for a totally different environment - good AND bad.

We have enough NAXJA-NAC guys tucked away in various corners of the state to hook up with for a beer or two or three . . . doesn't have to be wheeling. Believe it or not, there are trees, lakes, farms and other such things South and West. And Long Beach Island. Jersey takes a lot of hits from the rest of the world, some deserved, some not - but no one can deny that there's plenty of CHOICE around this place, tucked between NYC and Philly, and you'll never get bored - unless you want to be!

And yes, you'll never have to pump gas again!:spin1:

The irony is that you move all the way across the county...

Only to live next to the water, and a ferry system.

Same as it ever was....same as it ever was....

Rule number 1, always park on the end spot so there is a wall on one side.
If rule number one is not possible then
Rule number 2, always park next to a more expensive car than yours or better yet between two more expensive cars.

That storm blew thru allentown about 2 hours ago, power on the desktops kept going up and down so they called it a day.

How's your snow and ice driving ? thats coming up soon too...

Walls are a bit hard to come by in a crowded out-door parking lot. Our indoor garage will be done in two weeks. After today, they gave us indoor parking in the next building over until ours is done. :)

Parking by more expensive vehicles is nice when you get a chance. Our car attracts them as well. :D

Snow and ice driving is not a problem.. done it for years, and am not worried. :wave1:
