TEXLAHOMA (or TexLaHoma)

All joking aside, LA for Loisianna, Lahoma for OK-Lahoma, and Tex for, lets see, oh yah TEXAS! party1:
I thought this up as joke initially, but the more I think about it as I post this it has a ring to it, and is somewhat unmistakable as to the three states it covers.

Just kidding y'all.
A multiple state chapter will be hard to name, simply due to the fact of possible future geographical expansion etc.
Good to see y'all moving forward. It's a lot of work and I wish y'all much success!!

Well if we include Arkansas, texas, Oklahoma, and Lousiana all 4 states border along the red river at some point. The nice thing is we include New Mexico they could be red river aslo becasue they have a red river in their state.

How about a light blue or a gray color with lettering in Red with a white XJ.
And no OK will only just have this chapter because they were deeded over to us by the Midwest Chapter, so now the Oklahoma territory is part of the Lousiana/Texas chapter.

Sounds like none of the Oklahoma members were of any "strategic importance" to them. MWC was only interested in those in and around the Windy City area if that was where they had meetings and events.
Rather drown in the Rio Grande than Lake Michigan anyway.

Why not start a second simple yes/no poll in a new thread to see if it has enough support to be considered?
Right now the top chapter names have only 40%, 32% and 24% votes, none of which is majority. I think we will need some kind of run off election anyway to get at least 51% vote for a final name. I don't think we should go with a name that has less than 51% approval.
So lets see if there is any real hard core support for it?

I was thinking that a run off would be the way to go.
Agreed.
I think we should have some member discussion next as to whether there is any substantial support for the TXXJA name, and then maybe have a series of run off polls, if needed, until we have a solid majority behind a name selection.
There seems to be solid support behind Red River, but not a majority, at least not yet. And South Central is only 2 votes shy of a tie. TXXJA was not considered in that vote. Unless about 8 or more people say they want to vote or change their vote to TXXJA as the name, I think we should go with a run off between the two top runners in the first poll.
I would cut off the current poll by the end of this weekend, sunday night? Just to move things along.
goodburbon
July 6th, 2007, 14:13
The current poll is corrupt and is much closer than is shown in the results, just click on the # of votes and you will see that there are actually 8 Votes for red river, 7 for south central and 5 for Texlahoma

Where do I officially change my vote to TXXJA ? Where is the new poll that was supposed to be started anyway. Since we have introduced the new choice that several have un-officially endorsed then the original poll seems to be invalid anyway. We have had poop stirers from outside our area voting as well and that alone invalidates the first poll.

Actually the first poll is neck and neck if you pull up the vote records and see who voted, it shows a neck and neck vote between real eligable members between South Central and Red River taking >75% of the vote with a 7 to 8 vote respectively. I am inclined to agree with Bigdaddychia that TXXJA and Texlahoma, and yes even Texlexico (LOL) don't do justice to the territory we say we are covering, even if most of the members are currently in texlexico (LOL), and it risks alienating the other states (no matter how much fun that might be :shhh:).
Personally I like most of the choices for Texas, I just like some more than others, and two, or one in my case, seem most appropriate until this chapter splits up into several state chapters.
Are any of the other chapters like Utah or Colorado covering multiple states with a single state name?

Thoughts on the matter
Red River. Nice, but no one (in this area) knows where that is. My wife saw that and said "Isn't red river in New Mexico?"
TXXJA Simple, Makes for good logos, but may alienate someone who feels that they are not as important because their state is not mentioned. (not me)
South Central. Excellent area description but also carries another connotation because of the prevelance of rap culture in "South Central L.A."
Texlahoma Good catchy name.....but Arkansas has joined the party so it no longer fits.

Agreed. Texlahoma no longer fits. So I take no one is going bark at adding Arkansas (at least they won't bark too loudly, LOL).
How about a comprimise, "The RedRiver TXXJA" Chapter? or is that too long for logo's and stuff, maybe so? Or does that just narrow the territory instead of expanding it? Just thinking outloud here.
All good points Goodburbon. I have not been entirely comfortable with RedRiver for similar reasons, but many others liked it.

So back to the subject, how are we going to settle this issue?
I am gald to see some real discussion of the pros and cons of the various choices going on here, along with the occasional humor. Much more fun than a bloody civil war over a chapter name.
So how about the Tejas chapter. Didn't parts of these states use to be called Tejas before we kicked Santa Ana's rear? Or Is my memory fading too. never mind, Louisianna was not part of Tejas.

Oh crap did I just make another suggestion.
Being an Arkie I have no problem with TXXJA as the chapter name if it's favored by most.....or maybe "XJs Ya'll" since "RedNeck CoonAss" didn't quite make the cut. There are other things that the four states have in common. I'm think it would be a bit to controversial though. That area they all share is also known as "Little Dixie," seems that a fair number of lessor land owners who lost it all during the civil war relocated there.

I think we are looking for a geographical link, but that is an interesting historical tid-bit. Did you come up with any other links which we might be able to use?
I,for one, did hope that the concensus would lean towards goodburbon's suggested title of TXXJA. That associates the members with a recognizable place which Red River fails to do. We now know the geography includes all 4 states in the river's path, but those who have not read that little known fact would not.
I'll go with whatever the majority decides even if it is Gobbledegook chapter.

It was just a bit of worthless information I found while searching my family history.
It will be tough to come up with a more geographic description than the Red River. The diversity of Texas landscape alone is awe inspiring. I like the TXXJA name myself, but tends to leave the other states in the chapter lacking an identity.

Well...... Caddo Chapter also links the four states historically.
The Caddo cultural pattern developed among groups occupying conjoining parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas from A.D. 700 to 1000. These groups practiced agriculture, hunting, and trading and lived in dispersed (http://www.answers.com/topic/disperse) family farmsteads associated with regional temple mound centers. Their elite leadership institutions and an emblematic (http://www.answers.com/topic/emblematic) material culture distinguished these groups. Accounts portray a well-organized society, one that traced ancestry through the mother's line, that filled leadership positions by male inheritance, that had a calendar of ceremonies associated with important social and economic activities, and that had widely extending alliances. In this region, the Caddo preserved key social, political, and religious institutions.
Once again useless information, but it is another link
Or we could annex New Mexico and then we would be FEMA Region ^
