Don't they already make enough?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070628/ap_on_go_co/congress_pay_raise
Bloody Hell - I'm still waiting to see what they actually produce to be worth paying them for in the first place. Just some tangible object - apart from doorstops and fertiliser.
I'd rather pay a tradesman than a lawyer. At least the tradesman will produce something that everyone can touch, see, and (probably) use. Hell, at least it would make sense - I'm still trying to figure out how to apply rules of logic to the system of laws we have - there are quite a few that contradict each other; and a few that are, I think, oxymoronic (and more than a few that are just plain moronic...)

They want to give themselves a Cost Of Living wage in crease but yet most of the population works just to put gas in a car. I'd love to get a raise of just a 1/4th of what they are going to give them selves.

I don't think they should get paid at all. Of course, I believe that anyone who voluntarily seeks office should be automatically disqualified.

I've got an idea. How about these guys get together twice a year in Washington for a month and then for the other 10 months they're in their home districts working a real job. Pay them $10,000 per month for the 2 months they are in Washington. They can sleep on a cot in their office if they don't want to pay for a hotel for the month. MAYBE they could be given a small expense account of say $1,000 per month for gas and expenses to travel around their district.
I say fire 'em all! Probably not 10 of them out there that are worth a plastic grocery bag full of used diapers from the Wal-mart parking lot anyway.

Plus, they're not subject to harassment laws, dicrimination laws, ADA, OSHA, or EEO. They can pretty much do what they want in their own offices. They claim they're governed by ethics guidelines..THTHTH..on their ethics.

WTF, Don't they get enough money from the lobbiests to be able to swing things?

You're nicer than me, they should be paying their own way out of their own pockets, no donations or federal pay!

I still like the idea of selecting the congress and senate from a lottery of legal social security numbers.

Most members support the pay raise as a means of retaining experienced lawmakers and of making sure that Congress is not simply dominated by wealthy people. I'd prefer to see many of those "experienced" lawmakers get the boot. Jabba the Kennedy comes to mind as a mindless buffoon who continually gets re-elected by somehow convincing the sheep of Massachusetts that he is actually doing something...

With time off for good behavior. Also, they can't pass any new law without rescinding an old one.

I say send them to Washington for 15 strait months, make them sleep in tents, never see their families, and only get 15 min phone calls home. Then, only pay them $60,000 a year.
