I am on a very tight budget and need a adjustable trac bar. I have been looking at Rusty's and Rough Countrys. I can get a Rough Country adj trac bar for $120 shipped and the Rustys is not far away from that price. Most of my driving is in town and my wheeling is in the desert. What are your opinions on both and which do you prefer? Is there anything else around that price range that is better?

I'm sure I'm going to get hate mail for this, but I have a Rusty’s adjustable trac bar and it had held up just fine. I originally had one of the older Rusty's trac bars on my Jeep that looked as if you could break it over you knee. It did not fit right and ended up bending the end, not the bar itself. He sent me out a new one for free, three years after I bought it. The new design was a huge improvement over the old one and is doing just fine under the XJ. It has been on multiple trails in Moab as well as Table Mesa and Florence Junction in AZ.
A simple search for Rusty's trackbar will provide you hours of helpful info to assist your decision..........boggles my mind how many times folks ignore good advise and then act surprised when the junk they were told not to buy fails.........your hard earned money, spend it wisely.
I had a RC trackbar several years ago, unless they have changed the design stay away! Mine lasted less than 2 weeks before the TRE went bad. The thing looked very weak, maybe 1" tubing. There are folks out there that have folded them like a pretzel.
I was glad to get rid of it, and ended up using the Rusty's HD TB. Even though the Rustys TB doesn't have the best rep, it was a monster compared to the rough country one. I plan on getting rid of the Rusty's unit too, but this is mainly because I will be going with OTK steering. Also because of the fear of breaking, even though I have never had any issues with it.
Also keep in mind at 3" you can probably just relocate the stock TB by drilling a new hole in the axle mount. The stock bar is made from solid stock, so it's plenty strong. If I was doing it all over again, and was on a tight budget, I would do this before buying either RC or Rusty's.
Whatever you decide, keep in mind this is not a part to go cheap on. Your life, and the life of those on the highway depend on it!
I have the rustys HD on mine and have beat the crap out of it, running a 44 with 37" boggers. Its been on there for over 3 years. Only had to replace the bushings.
My first lift was a RC w/ a Rusty's trackbar(lasted a whoppin 3 months on a brand new 2000XJ),never do either again!!

The trackbar is the one place not to try and cut corners/cost (be a C.A.B.)on!
Get a "real" trackbar and you will never forget it!RE,JKS,TNT,Kevin's,etc..
Actually Im pretty sure he asked (i have searched numeros times on Rough Country and i see the same people either bashing or defending my question is how many people have actualy ran a Rough Country lift and what makes them so bad or good compared to other kits
Now having said that lets compare apples to apples). Im sure he was prolly looking to get "straight" answers, from real world experience. So guess its so bad he was looking for straight answers on RC products. Hmmmmm wow all we get from Crustys is Ill ship in the AM......
Back on topic :doh: for the 3in of lift I belive you would be happy with the RC track bar. If going over that and beating your truck really well with larger tires, I would say go RE1660 TB and HD bracket.... you wont look back again after that.hasta

Yes, he asked on THAT thread, BUT he didn't have a sig, or any way for us to know he was with RC until his 2nd post in the thread. Yes it was sneaky, but at least he is doing research!

Seems as though RC is doing the proper research, but I would give it some time for the newly aquired knowlage to actually be passed along through their products before buying them.
+1 for Black Diamond. I was looking for the cheapest one I could find that didn't have a lot of hate around here, and BD fit the bill. It's very beefy and hasn't given me a lick of trouble.

Why do you need a new track bar for a 3" lift?I just install a 3" RC on a 1999XJ.Installed 31x10.5x15 tires.After RC sent me some wedges,all vibration is gone and the ride is better then before.This xj was never off road before.Yes,I am one very happy person with my new toy!

If you don't relocate the TB your front axle won't be centered. Take a close look at yours, I about guarantee your axle will stick out farther on the drivers side than on the passenger side. This MAY not present problems as far as street driving, but it can cause parts to come into contact when the axle articulates. Plus it looks funny.
