Firstly, I love junkyards, have absolutely nothing against them and I am going to one in hayward this Saturday. True Love.
Last year I went with a friend to help him get some parts at a junkyard in Oakland and saw the most interesting junkyard parking lot. I'd been to ones in the central valley (which i like best since things dont rust much out there) but this one was the best. There were girls sittin in lowrider cars waiting for their men who were inside pluckin parts off cars. They were struttin around the parking lot in their worn out wooden heels clackin and scrapin trying to look cool.
Inside the place was abound with action. as the giant forklift dropped off cars these guys would quickly run to it and it never took them more than 2 minutes to get the whole stereo with speakers out along with some change from under the seats. after watching that for a few minutes i got a little concerned about my POSXJ in the parking lot. probably all dented from wooden heels clakin around it and missing a stereo and my ashtray full of change.
I thought that was pretty interesting.
When I go to se my wife's uncle at the farm in Tranquillity , near Fresno, he goes to the yard once a week and gets all types of treasures. My favorite is the pick your part in mendota. That place has a lot of good stuff and they always have new additions coming in. In the parking lot there is usually a taco truck so you can eat and get a cold drink.
The lanes are plenty wide for one to cart their junkyard cart up and down the aisles colleting parts here and there.
I once found a whole Craftsman socket / ratchet set at that junkyard so it will always have a special place in my heart and I don't even hesitate to pay that 2.00 to get in much less the additional 2.00 to go see the "primo" section.
