Tranny cooler hose disconnects

Does anyone know how to disconnect the plastic retainers used to join the lower transmission cooler hose entering/exiting the radiator ('95 XJ).

First - gotta clean 'em out. I used the red spray-nozzle thingy and a can of WD-40 to spray out all the debris. It won't squeeze down enough to unlock if that connection has anything in it.

Second - squeeze the ears together and pull. IIRC the ears stay on the male end of the connection.
