who gives a $4!7?

Yahoo! news now has a "headline" item that "Lance Bass is Gay." First - who the Hell is Lance Bass? I just had to read the first sentence - he's with N'Sync.

Oh - explains that - he's "ghey." Seems he's "gay" as well.

So, how is this newsworthy? What's the impact of this fact? Why, simply put, should I care enough to read more?

When did news stop emphasising "informing" people and shift to "living vicariously?" I don't care who's gay or who's ghey, I certainly don't give a damn about "boy bands" or most "music" that's come out in the last 10 years or so, and I don't see the point.

Is it any wonder I don't read the papers anymore, and I tend to change the channel when news comes on? I get my news from unconventional sources (local items, for instance, off the radio scanner. No spin that way...) so I don't get so damn depressed with everything that's out there.

Just once, I'd like to see a positive story - or just something good that happened to someone - printed on Page One, above the fold. "Shit Sells" seems to be the order of the day with these people, and they wonder why so many people are on anti-depressants.

It's times like this I start considering having my own news outlet - with items that are actualy newsworthy, and try to have a balance between the upbeat and the negative events.

Gawd. I don't understand why their ratings are so high - and I don't understand why people actually care about the crap that gets "reported" in the "news." Ugh.

Carry on.

why report anything newsworthy? You wouldn't suppose someone(s) are trying to push the it's O-Tay to be gai agenda ?

My hell, I so agree!

Do that many really care, that Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, paris hilton has a new album or just flashed cooter again. Good GAWD people, where is the real news. and I am not talking about something like Pres Bush "not" knowing the microphone was still on, thats not "headline" news folks.

and for local news, makes me want to puke. around here we are into day number 9 of the same TOP STORY. gets old...

Yeah, I know. Hazzard of being old, I guess - you remember things being better because they actually were better!

I've said it before, I don't mind if someone is gay, and I've actually had quite a few gay acquaintances and buddies (I have very few true "friends" to begin with - but the ones I have are fiercely loyal.) However, don't get in my face about it, because that doesn't help your "cause."

To borrow from my wife's former hairdresser, "If you want to be gay, be gay. Don't be a fag about it, tho" (yes, he was gay himself.)

I don't "hate" gay people, but that is taking more and more effort on my part. I just don't want to hear it - sexuality (of whatever sort) certainly doesn't belong in the news.

Everybody's got their own ax to grind these days, and it's getting tiresome. I've got my own - I seem to recall someone in Wisconsin, years ago, applying for a parade permit. Theme? "It's Great to be Straight." He was denied, because the parade may be considered "offensive."

Sorry, but I find the several-times-annual "Fag Show" to be offensive - mainly, because that's when things always seem to break, and the Fag Show is usually between me and wherever I need to go to fix something. Do you have any idea how much money I've lost because I couldn't get to a job? Yurf.

Hell, he was never any sort of operator...

That's not my point tho - my point is simply this: Since when is someone coming out of the closet newsworthy? I'm just tired of hearing about it...

News is, by definition, "current events which have an impact upon society."

"Day 9" of the top story isn't news. Not anymore - it stopped being news a week ago.
Someone "coming out" isn't news - if it has an impact upon society, we've really sunk.
"Gay Rights" and the "Homosexual Agenda" aren't news - apparently, there has been some form of homosexual intercourse going back into Ancient Greece, so that's definitely not current events.

What's the next headline story - Dan Rather decides to do the nightly news without his throw rug?

I saw that a few a hours ago and had the same initial question...'Who is Lance Bass?'

Then I read the first line or two and said ....'NO!...REALLY!!!!!!!!'

I agree though. Who cares! The news has become worthless.

yes, but the story that started your avatar really cracked me up. We have a retard here in my new neighbor hood that roams around looking for something to cure his boredom. In the 3 weeks we have lived here I've had 4 run-ins with him. I'm thinking about a similar sign....

Don't see any reason why not - I've been using it for a few years, and it's not mine to begin with. I just don't have any actual attribution for it, so I have no idea WHO it belongs to!

Hmmm further proving my point that us Jeepers are the last to have our heads on right err or is that upsidedown, well it comes out right no matter how we have them on or where they are.

Anyway, I agree the news is total bullsh#t. I do not mind traffic reports for my area, but now here in the Bay Area they have high tech green squares to represent traffic => POS

I would like to hear about my areas events like car shows, parades, something good. Or possibly local votes on propositions that are important to the community.

It seems that all they are after is to grab the hear strings of an ill-fated community and win people over with one persons struggle. Hooray for them, but I did not turn on the news to hear about some poor saps struggle.

As far as the gay pride parade and the man who tried to have the opposite of that. It is political correctness, and I think South Park said it best, in that you must wait before you can make fun of something. Only recently have AIDS/HIV jokes become accepted yet it is a highly dangerous epidemic. I think people spend more money on jewlery a year than what the AIDS research has donated. The who gay pride thing is just dumb. Be gay, be straight, be bi who cares. I mean why can't a straight white man have a proud to be white and straight march and not step on anyones toes, not trying to say I am better, but being proud. And for those of you who think that a straight pride parade is just saying that sexuality choice is right, then I ask you, how hypocritical are you?

This country is turning into a giant bowl of jello. We conform to whatever we are put into by the planets media.

There are those of us who notice, but I ask how can so few influence so many. I am sure 1 on 1 each duma@# that loves the news and such would see the point 5-90 brings up then trying to tell a big babbling mass of people.

Sorry I just spend 2 hours in traffic on El Camino Real...People cannot drive in this damn state. They look at me funny for having loud music, yet these people are out there trying to look cool in there nice cars and stupid ass jewlery then that is when they cut me off...or the best being cut off in a PT Cruiser by a damn Semi...He was driving that thing like it was the Indy 500.

thats awesome.

its just been recently that ive had gay friends. you know why? because they're normal. ie: not flamers.
this whole time that ive not liked gays, ive been wrong. gay people are great. its flamers that piss me off. the femininity in actions and voice, it pisses me off because its all forced. they didnt talk like that before they were gay. its like when people (white and black) speak in ebonics. make 'em sound like fawkin retards

srry off topic venting
