hey guys .so my wife is awesome and hooked me up with a CB that i had been ogling (not the one i wanted but its nice either way )so....
i tried reading up on different antennas but my eyes glazed over and the computer screen went blurry .and i didn't retain much of any thing it was kind of like high school all over again .but i was sober :dunno:
what has worked well for you and please go easy on the techno.
i was thinking of a top mounted 4' of some type i recall reading about 1/2 or full wave and a 4footer on the roof was good .I'm not worried about parking garages .and i don't reely want a huge whip fly fishing off the jeep that's my job!! so whats a good brand to buy ?

thanks for any and all help ..

I've had Wilson 5000's on two of my vehicles and loved them both. You do have to drill a hole in the roof to mount it. It also comes with a weatherproof cap you can put on when you remove the antenna for whatever reason.

I've had it mounted there in the center of the roof for five years and driven under many a low hangin branch etc. while fourwheeling and blasting through the desert and it's still there working fine. The Wilson has a metal whip that starts out just over 1/8" at the base ant tapers down from there to the end. It flexes/bends much better than the firestick I used to run, unless you put one of those spring dealies at the base..... in that case, theres no comparison, the firestick wins for "trail conformity".

I've run Wilson 1000 for 6 yrs on all my vehicles. Love it. I can hear folks talking sooner than those with others and can talk farther. I have it mounted in the roof, but with a little thought and a bracket can probably be mounted anywhere.

Have my CB and 2 meter antennas mounted this way. Haven't lost one YET! Also, the roof of your vehicle is the ground plane, improves operation.;)

I have a Wilson 100 too. Picked it ip at CB exchange in East Mesa. The guy behind the counter is a A hole but the antenna is great. I think it was 70 or 80 bucks and it includes the mount and cable. I could be wrong on the price I picked it up a few months ago and didn't pay that much attention.

Have a good one, Z

I run a wilson 3ft fiberglass antenna mounted on the side of my jeep with a spring base and the kind of mount that has no exposed cable. I can pick up people from REALLY far away and nobody has ever had a problem hearing me either. Just make sure to NOT coil up any remaining cable as that = BAD!!!

You won't find better prices than here.

Hey Chris, forgot to tell you. I have that hitch if you want it. I didn't end up using any parts from it, so it is all yours if you want it. We just need to set up a time so you can cruise over and get it.

Im using a Wilson 5000 Mag mount that is mounted to my roof rack.
Yes it has been removed by branches & other low clearence stuff on the trail, How ever I knew this would end up happening but for me being able to communicate I chose this one.
And it too has that weather proof cap as well.
I also have my 2m / 70cm that is on a perminate mount on the roof rack as well, it hasent had the best of luck & is now bent but still works great & I was able to hit the Mt. Ord repeater from Buckeye (about 90+ miles) using only 5 watts.

To tie in that bumper, I ended up just using two pieces of angle iron. I attached them to those studs in the frame for the hitch and then to the bumper. Works great. So like I said, the hitch is all yours. I'm busy today (Sunday) but sometime this week will be good.

I run the wilson 5000 magnetic. I like this because I can move it around if I want and if I run under a low branch, the magnet just pops over and I get out and fix it real quick. This has yet to happen though. The only time it pops over is when I forget and try to drive into my garage. I got mine from walcottb.com It seemed to be the cheapest there. It has been a couple years and I forget what I paid for it. Again, great range and quality.
