View Full Version : Custom Swing Out Gate !

I finally finished this project. I reacently had a daughter and did not have to much time to do a right up. I only had time to build so I built this bumper hope it gives some people some ideas. The bumper is not completely finished. I plan on adding qauter panel protection that wraps under the body it should be strong enough to support the wieght of the vehicle. I also plan on adding a rear skid plate as well.

Muddy90XJ, I used a trailer spindle you can buy them from AtoZfabrication. Mr. Overkill not everything on the Advanced Fabrication forum has a right up.

Definately no "advanced" fab here,BTW a spindle hub should be made from seamless material!

Photos can contain enough "tech" in and of themselves to belong in AdFab, but these photos do not. They look perty though :)

i think it looks kinda goofy with the tire cover. imo it would look better without. but nice lookin bumper.

Looks like a ConFer rack to me.

Great looking bumper and swing-out...

You should get an airbrushed pic of your rig in action on that tire cover.... Is that something you made? Why a cover?

without a write up this belongs in the pix threads. no tech in this.OK, OK, get off my back........ it is a nice bumper, i mean it, :thumbup: but even with a write up it is still only ( in my opinion ) MOD tech. sorry but the advanced tech area is for just that ADVANCED TECH AND ENGINEERING. i know its not always enforced but this thread had no tech in it let alone advanced tech. but i say again that it is a real nice bumper and tire carrier and i have to agree with the guy that without the cover would look best unless you did the aribrush thing.

Thanks everyone no hard feelings here. I put the tire cover on the tire when I had the tire on the roof rack. Where I live the temps get up to 114 degrees during the summer and without a tire cover you could get a bubble in your spare tire. So when I moved the tire from the roof rack to the swing out gate I just kept the tire cover because my buddy bought it for me for a wedding gift and it is a bestop cover so it will last. I know everyone will slap a million stickers on it now.
