We've been in the new house for right at a month now and been actually living here. Our landlord wanted to check the rental today for damages. We had an $825 deposit and a non-refundable $150 pet fee that we were told would be used to clean the carpets. I rented a carpet cleaner and gave it a once over just b/c that's how I am. There are some minor stains (not from the pet either) that are normal wear and tear for someone living in a place for a year. She says it's gonna cost us about $400 from our deposit to have someone come in and clean them. I knew we were gonna get bent over. I was about to tell them to do whatever and just consider the majority of the 825 gone but I was given orders to keep my mouth shut.
Second, we are still paying utilities over there. For the month that we've been over at the new house, our gas was $80 and the electric was $45. My combined bills for the month at the new pad were just under $40 and I've been doing laundry, washing dishes, etc. I just don't see how that's possible. We don't get the bills. They go to the landlord and she calls us and tells us the damages. I just wonder if I'm paying for her water and gas? I'm very glad to be done with renting again. It was one of the worst feelings to go from owning back to renting. Hopefully I wont have to do that again. That's all...gonna go see if I can find some Knight Rider on the tube.
That's not all. As I'm standing there listening to her babble on about keeping a chunk of my deposit, I'm thinking back a few months to when I came home and found a bunch of my crap in the garage moved. I had a $3000 road bike that was hanging out there and I found a set of XJ fenders leaning on the top tube. Not only was the top tube scratched but the titanium railed saddle was cut. I know I'm a DA for not saying anything to her about it but this is when I thought she was coming in the house while I was at work and fawking with my dog. If that really was happening, I didn't wanna stir the pot and make the situation worse. I guess I'm just frustrated but I know it's soon to be over with for good.
