I was thinking about this and it may be better to "share" Oklahoma with the midwest, and "share" Louisiana with the SEC. Western Tx members may also find it more convenient to attend intermountain chapter events.
Problems arise because Texas is so damn big. 850 miles across is a long damn way. So basically while we call it the Texla chapter it will include louisiana, Texas, and anyone else who finds it more convient than any other chapter, (Arkansas, Oklahoma)
BIgDaddyChia

That would work for me Burbon. The Southwestern Xterra Club encompasses Texas mostly bu we have members in OK, and LA and used to have one in AR. However the boys out in El Paso ended up forming the West Texas Xterra Club because they were so far away.

What we'll do is keep the doors open to any member from any chapter who wants to participate in our activities, that way we won't have to negotiate any territorial conflicts. So while we will officially be Louisiana and Texas anyone close is welcome.
Having said that, if our membership dives we'll initiate a hostile takeover of Arkansas and Oklahoma to maintain Chapter status :D

I would think that they may need to poll their membership from Ok before they can reply. I just made a big assumption that they have some members and that someone here has already got them looking into it. Me bad.

My understanding is that once we are actually a chapter we could work out a deal with Midwest to have overlapping territory and the members located therein could choose which chapter to be in.
at least thats what I hope will happen.
We can't just annex OK and many of the OK members want to be in the Midwest chapter.

Yeah, either Chia or Burbon dropped em a line a couple of weeks ago, but no response so far that I'm aware of. A membership poll would be a reasonable assumption as well, I'd think, but it'd be nice to at least hear a "we're discussing it" from someone over there.
Normally I'd say its not a big deal and something we could handle after the chapter is formed, but we have a qualified member for BOD who's technically outside our area so it might be useful to have that question answered so File 05 can run for office. :)

I'd rather be in a Texas/Louisiana chapter. All the MWC meet & geets are in like Chicago. If Texas/Louisiana ever got together at Clayton, it would be a lot more doable for me.

Well I have just overstepped my bounds but I asked the MWC Prez to send us some decision pretty soon on sharing Ok membership with us. They state that most of their membership activities are located around Chicago so they are aware that it is difficult to impossible for the Ok members to be very active in the chapter. So if I have overstepped my bounds it was only in an effort to keep the ball rolling and to increase the member roles for the chapter.
Just got a PM that they are discussing it right now and they are favorably looking at letting us share the OK territory with them. We will have a decision by the morning. The MWC Prez is calling every BOD member on the phone this evening to get us a fast decision.

Don't know if I am stepping any toes here (let us know if I am please), but since you have some time and contacts already, would you be interested in gathering the regular email addresses, phone numbers and snail mail addresses of members, users and potential members of the chapter. Would ential contacting national to see what they will and can share with us as well. I don't think anyone is working real hard a complete list yet. Would also entail putting them all in to something like Excel that the BOD could all use and share easily.
Any sugestions from you PC software gurus as to what to use other than Excel?

Would be happy to do that but will need at least a couple of national people to contact. The only national contact I ever had was with Woody and Ghost about membership IIRC.
I could just make a list using word perfect or some other word program and then e-mail it to whomever becomes the BOD. I'm by no ones stretch a computer guy but do have some time to devote to this project.

Wordperfect is probably not a great choice. One us here should be able to come up with a free download program, maybe in html that would be easy to share and pass on to those who need to use it for official business from time to time.

As far as Excel or anything like that, I have no experience but I think my wife does. I'll ask her tonight. She is not to enthused with me spending even more time on the 'puter. We shall just have to see what happens on that front. I am familiar with the word programs because I used them while working on my masters degree to write several papers, but that was years ago in the 80s.

http://docs.google.com has a fully functional and free spreadsheet program thats entirely web-based that would be reasonable.
The only reason I haven't pursued more complete contact information as part of the Google Earth map was that I figured most folks wouldn't be confortable providing those details to a relative stranger. I assumed once we hand an official secretary that they could handle the collection detail as folks might feel better about giving out that sort of information to an "official".
That said, I'd happily compile this data in any format requested...I am one of those computer guru's that Ecomike mentioned earlier. :)

Then by all means you have the job if you will take it. Noone is going to wrestle you for it I'd bet. As for the personal info I agree but if the rules were ammended to allow you to become, at the very least, interim secretary then you would be official. I would not want to see that personal info up on the Google Earth program either but as long as it is kept by the secretary, then that would be fine in my opinion.

since we are starting to get so much interest from tx, la, ar, and ok, maybe we should consider making this the mid south chapter. of course, we can put a clause in the by laws that will let any state with x number of members and a majority vote succede(sp) in order to form their own chapter.
Ecomike
June 30th, 2007, 13:40
Didn't we try that during the Civil War?:jester:
Mid South or South Central would probably be allright.
I think we should cool it on adding states at this point lest the national guys start to think we are working on a coup to take over the national chapter. But I would not appose it.
I agree, there is no reason the south Arkansas guys should be excluded, or even someone in New Mexico that lives near the Texas border.
The issue we should discuss right now is if they can vote and hold office?
My suggestion is that if they live close enough to this area, and select this as their chapter, that they should be allowed full local chapter previlages as long as they are national XJ paid members and officially select this as their chapter.
Since Texas is the central state to this effort, I would think that we want officers that live in Texas or close enough to The Texas boarder to make travel to Texas and boarder state areas a non issue. For instance I think I would oppose election of a chapter president that lived all the way in New Orleans, Brownsville or El Paso. It is just too far away, unless it was someone with nothing better to do, who owned five jeeps in every state, and flew his jeeps around in his own private cargo party1: jets.

Hi guys, I have been lurking here and the other threads...
Good job so far!
Keep up the good work.
As far as OK members, Okie Terry was the only Okie that associated with the MWC, honestly, he and Val were the only reason we incorporated OK into the MWC.
They had attended some events and were already 'one of us'.
As far as a list on members from OK, two choices:
1) Check the members roster, (http://sponsorship.naxja.org/20061110-memberroster.htm) there is a list of member and state resided in. I think you could even cut and paste the whole thing into an Excel doc. and manipulate it as needed.
2)Get a hold of Glenn Fulmer(Ghost) he is current membership guy, he may help you also.
Don't worry so much about each and everyones address and such, IMHO, you are complicating things, making it to difficult.
Remember, K.I.S.S.!
