Well SharkXJ I wish I would've read your posting before I went on this run so I could've thrown ya an invite.

What an amazing place especially this time of year.
I'm runnin 3.5 RE lift some fairly new 31" BFG AT. Stock other than that. My buddy has a Dakota on 31" BFG MT and cranked up the torsion bars. We got some good damage and only got hung up once or twice. Nothing a tow strap and some throttle couldn't handle. I don't think you catch me there in a stock rig.

I'll let the photo's tell the rest.

Where is that trail located? How long does it take to run? My XJ would laugh at the terrain but it could be a fun day trip.

Awesome. Can't wait to get up there in a couple of weeks. If anyone wants to go PM me for details. It was going to be a NAXJA run but a lot of folks are going to Farmermatts that same weekend and I didn't want to take away from that.

Great pix. The water crossings looked low. We camp where you guys exited the trail on Highway 4.

They might have been a little low, my first time out there though. Are you still planning to go on June 23rd? If I have my new winch and bumper I'd be in to going again. My girl bought me a new Warn M8000 and told me to order a new bumper so we could go on more trips.

Awesome pics, now thats what I'm talking about! Is there still a group of people going up there again soon, my wife and I may be interested. How far is it from Sacramento? Where like 2 1/2 hours south of Sac.

Anyway, sorry to hijack, those are some beautiful pictures!

sorry for the damage, gotta happen sometime though. ;)

Did that trail couple weeks ago. Had to cut a section out of a 4' diameter fallen tree. Lucky we had just finished opening Slick Rock. Did you run into Much snow?

Not much at all. There was plenty of spots around but none on the trail.

Shark your date is the 29th?? I'll plan on it. I'd like to run SlickRock. Never been.

Head up friday evening - Camp on the hwy 4 side.

Wheel DV both directions on Sat.
Wheel Slick Rock on Sunday
Head home on Monday.

A couple of buddies are probably going to head up early on Firday and set up camp. I won't leave the Bay Area until after 7:30 (to avoid traffic). I am leaving from San Jose and you are welcome to carovan if you want.

I think I might do this:
Head up Friday after work and bust in on SharkMarks camp site then do a Midnight Slickrock run. Then Saturday run DearVally to 88 and back, then head out to Farmer Matts 4 O' July Party!

The spot we camp in isn't BUT there a lot of other spots within 50 feet of ours. There is a lot of camping in the general area.

Good idea but with a group this large having a base camp is the way to go. You can camp where ever you want but me and my buds are going to stick to our original plan.

hey guys - just a bump for next week's trip.

I won't be getting to the camp site until after 10pm on Friday night. My friends Dave and Sean will get there some time during the day. We are camping at the Hermit Valley Campground http://www.californiajeeper.com/deerval/review.htm

I don't have an official count but it looks like there will be at least 8 to 10 rigs on the trail. Due to the number of rigs we will need to be on the trail no later than 9:30am on Saturday.

We will be on CB Chanel 29 for the weekend.

PM me if you have any questions.

Stock would take a long time, honestly - I don't think could get through there.

I've done this before and it works well. Just bring a little extra gas just in case.

We fueled up in Meyers (coming from Tahoe). Did Strawberry and headed over to Deer Valley trail. Blue Lakes have nice campgrounds and you can have a campfire in the pits but there is a fee to camp there. But on this trip we just made our way down the trail about 1/4 mile and there are a couple very nice camping spots off the side of the trail and near the river. Next day we completed Deer Valley and did the same thing for Slick Rock. Rather than trying to find a spot at Alpine Lake, we camped along the trail right next to the river. Very Nice!

Never been to Deer Valley and the photos look enticing.

The trail guide for californiajeeper.com state that a stock jeep would make it. The Dodge in the photos does not look like it has any mods (maybe slight lift) however there is visible damage to the lifted XJ, not just the flares, but the R/F bumper end cap has been shoved in.

It will be interesting to see Shark's photos after his weekend run.

Both the Dodge and my XJ got some decent damage. You are correct it was stock with MT's. I have a bent crossmember several kisses on my rockers front DL damage as well as the bumper damage. Mind you we ran this trail the "easy way". I'll be back up there on the 29th to go at it from the HWY 4 side of things. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Ohh yeah, the caljeepers trail guide is awesome! but hasn't been updated in 7 years.
