I have a hunt this fall for the Northern area, Uintahs, Cache Valley, West to nearly Snowville and East to Manila. I don't know the area at all, last fall I was pretty lost on the Unitah trip.

This weekend I plan to do some camping up in that area somewhere, any suggestions? I'm mostly scouting for hunting land but I'll have my kids with me also. I thought about including some geocaching stuff but I really need to find huntable land onthe Utah side as a priority.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Concerns? Questions?

Thanks-

Too bad you aren't planning on it a couple weeks later. We are going up to the Unitahs on the 7th-8th of July.

Oh and it would help to know what you are hunting.

My tag(s) are for both deer and elk. Special hunt this year during the general bull hunt, hunting the general deer boundaries, kill one of each.

I might tag along in July also, I don't want to go up there completely cold and try to hunt without knowing where to go.

Here is a rough map I just made of my hunt boundaries- in green
Thanks.

The Unitas will suck for hunting. That area gets hunted to crap.

Box Elder Co looks inviting though. There are some big old desert bucks in that country but there is alot of private ground too.

Northern Deer sucks. I've hunted it the last 3 years. Anywhere near Monte Cristo is hunted to death. If you can get up in the corner by Bear lake I've heard there are good deer up there. Box Elder county has the potential for some good deer, but almost all of it is private like Ryan said. Deer are all over the Grouse Creek area, except they are smart and feed in the hay fields that are private. Good luck...

Boy, this is NOT encouraging. Where were you guys when I put in for this! :D

Well, it's done now so I better find a place to hunt. I've heard right along the Wasatch front is pretty good deer hunting, but I kinda want to find an area with deer and elk, don't care for monsters, just meat.

To get this straight, your hunting general northern boundries and elk shaded in green?

Yes, it's a new hunt this year, deer AND elk in the dark green area, during the general bull hunt. So the deer (beer) hunters will be using the same area 10 days later.

I actually have the entire state to hunt for elk, but can only kill a deer that week and in that area so I intend to camp for the week and try to get both. I'm limited to that area for deer, but not for elk.

Comprende? It's kind of convoluted but it means I get to hunt two species at the same time, only taking a week off work.

I see... They sure don't give many options though. Almost all of that green area is private stuff. There are a few decent spots on the south side of the Monte Cristo road coming from Pineview. depending on where your boundry is. They shouldn't be too crowded on the general bull elk hunt. Also again, lots of private stuff. Good luck on the new hunt, sounds interesting!

yah, the wasatch front seems to be good for hunting deer with the front end of a vehicle. ive seen quite a bit of road kill the last few weeks. ironically ive seen 5 dead skunks on the road in the last 3 days. didnt smell to pretty in the area.

Well it looks like I'm going to head over to the Spirit Lake area this weekend, possibly around Brownie Lake as well. Having never been there, anyone have any input on that neck of the woods?

Thanks-

Very happy to see that there is another elk hunter around. Not sure about good spots but I will ask my brother in law who has much more experience across the state and post on that soon. Lucky you to draw out for the elk! Congrats!

Yeah, I think my points are up to 12 or 13 and still havent drawn. I was riding my bike down Big Mountain last week and a fish and game truck passed me with a bloated Elk in the back. Man that thing smelled BAD!

I'm not hunting a limited entry, just the regular season/free-for-all. I had several points built up and the DNR system doesn't recognise my old customer # anymore, so it issued me a new number and lost my points. I need to get into the office and get that sorted out.

I also have one turkey point now. Maybe I'll get a turkey tag next year.
