My starter crapped out on me a couple days ago and I have 2 options on replacing it. 1) I can go to my local U-Pull junkyard and get one off a good looking XJ for 35$ with exchange, or 2) I can go to an electronic shop and have my old one rebuilt for 150$. I think the rebuild will be more reliable than one off some random cherokee at the junk yard, but the one from the junk yard is way less. Just thought i'd see what other people would do in my situation. I have the money to rebuild it, but I also have other things I have to pay, like my loan. Thanks for any advice.

Why not go to NAPA and buy one rebuilt for 100?

Why not include getting a refurbished one from NAPA or other parts place in that list? Probably more spendy than a pick and pull but not quite 150 bones.

$80-$90 at AZ or O'Reilly for acceptable reman with lifetime warranty -- no reason shouldn't last 10 years or so.

Partsamerica.com (parent company of check/schuck's/kragen/csk/advance) has a 15% coupon code valid until 7/31. The code is MLBD. I used it to pick up a reman unit for about 70$ after tax last week.
Edit: looks like the price on their cheap starter has gone up a bit this week, but it's still 100$ before the coupon.

Shipping on the thing should be around $15-20, if you have trouble finding them anywhere else. Deal with Rod directly...
