Ok so i picked up a 86 231 AMC transfer case, popped it up in my rig and am having a few issues. I cannot hook up my front drive shaft. The yoke for the front is threaded and threaded with a smaller bolt than the drive shaft. I thought maybe the yoke from the 242 would just swap onto the 231 but that was wrong. Both are 26 spline but shaft size and seal diameter are totally different. As you can see from the pic the 242 front output yoke is on the left and the one from the 231 is on the right. Hard to tell but you can kinda see the threads on the 231 yoke. So what now??? Front drive shaft different on the front of a 231?? Also my rear driveshaft is too short so off to the DS shop I will go!!

I think that SYE is the extremely short one that makes it the same size as the atlas...

You can get a different U-joint that will step up or step down sizes, so you should be able to use the 231 yoke. Get a U-joint that will fit the yoke, and the drive shaft. Take them both to a GOOD local parts store to have them match one up for you.
