Been searching for a while. I am in OC, local preferred.

Max: $2,500.00, would like under $2K. Might consider more for the right XJ

Any year
Auto, 4x4, 4-door
Would consider 4-banger

Needs to be reliable enough for a daily beach/school runner (10 miles +/- a day) Plus weekender. Appearance can be well worn, but the jeep needs to be complete and functional. Kind of scared of super high miles.

I have plans for some mild mods down the road. (lift, tires, bumpers, etc).

I have been checking CL, Yahoo, E-bay, Auto Trader, and been keeping my eye open for a while. Came real close a couple of times, but still no luck.

If you know or see any in the local area, post it and I will check it out.

I met a guy in Azusa yesterday looking to unload his XJ for $2500, lifted and all. I told him to post it up here. Good luck with your search, I am also looking for the wife but I only have $1500

Homebrew: I saw your earlier, considered it. Although I know I will probably have to figure out some issues in due time, I don't want to drag one home that needs attention just to get it running...plus those 250K miles kind of scare me.....otherwise real close to what I am looking for.

Leep: I am not opposed to the 4-banger. Might even be a good thing considering the cost of gas. But the stick is a deal breaker. The kid is a bit soft. I am sure that $450.00 means it has some issues as well.

Both are kind of far too. One problem is that it is just too time consuming to drive much more than 15-20 miles. I did it a couple of times already when the jeep isn't right, it makes for a frustrating long drive, waste of time.

Thanks for the input so far though, keep em coming.

i wouldnt rule this one out yet man, dont knock the miles the 4.0 is just broken in at 120k, and his has a recent rebuilt motor. just needs some finishing touches. (just my 2¢)

250k is on the chassi, the engine was rebuilt less than 30k ago. I just need it gone I will cut a fare deal. I have recipts for most all the work that was done. I understand your situation, good luck in your search. Check CL in the IE there is a red one that the guy is asking 2k for not sure of the miles. Happy hunting

Nothing is ruled out. But I did inquire on NAXJA about an xj I drove that was fairly clean, had a couple issues that seemed easy and the 200K+ miles led some to believe I should avoid it.

I do have a '71 vw, and I know in that world odometer miles are not even really an issue.

So, what would it take to get it up and running, Homebrew?

Other than the stated issue, what else might it need?

honestly it ran fine then it got a bug in it I changed out the coil and module and starter relay, fixed the CPS and basically traced it back to the tps. as far as I can tell all that would be needed is the tps and the fluids. I know the tranny fluid hasent been changed in a long while. I got this jeep from my dad who owned it for about 6 years so I can give you an honest history on it at least back till the time he got it.

will need a high beam switch. my dad broke the switch so only the high beams work. Not trying to push the deal but look at it this way I am only asking half of what you are looking to spend, You can put a minimal amount of money into this thing and have a decent running/looking jeep that is sure to last.

If the repairs are that minor, wouldn't the towing cost more than the repairs?

If it was local, fixed, tagged and smogged I would be on it.

I might be selling mine in the future. 1987 Cherokee, 200K on chassis, 5k on new H/O motor utilizing renix sensors, stainless header, flowmaster muffler, updated A/C (r134) and cooling system (open style), D44 Rear, D30 front, 4.56 gears with lockright in rear, 4.5" hell creek suspension, 32" tires, Teraflex adjustable drag link, Teraflex quick disconnects, SYE with new rear driveshaft, and custom roof rack.

The brake booster has been updated to the dual diaphram brake booster, and I also have a rear disk brake kit that I havent installed yet.

Body is straight, front corner of front fenders trimmed, but all other fenders untouched. Interior is good with the exception of worn out fabric on the bolster of the drivers seat. I would be trying to get around 4,500.00 when I sell it.

I live in Salt Lake City and the jeep is more than capable of both highway and off road.
