gear setup issue super 35

rockwerks

NAXJA Forum User
Well I set up my own gears and had them checked by another and had the pinion depth correct, pinion preload correct, new crush sleeve, good pattern on the gears.

this was a used super 35 axle that I replaced the pinion bearings in.

all seemed ok got back from a trip and drained the gear oil and the pinion has been hitting the ARB? teeth marks all the way around? It has clearance at rest.

IM stumped any one have any ideas?

Did you torque the crush sleeve and get the correct pinion preload?

Your pinion is walking back and forth. $10 says you didn't get the crush sleeve right.

tightened it until it started to crush down (took about 500FT lbs) then tightened it down until with my beam torque wrench I read 2 ft lbs or 24 inch lbs.

Correct ARB for your gear ratio?
Carrier not fully seated in the housing?
Frt pinion brg not fully pressed onto pinion?
Pinion brg races not fully pressed into housing?

Correct ARB for your gear ratio? yes this axle was running before as setup
Carrier not fully seated in the housing? If that was the case it would be worse if it was seated farther in
Frt pinion brg not fully pressed onto pinion? fully pressed on, but does have one shim on it
Pinion brg races not fully pressed into housing?fully pressed in

I will have to recheck pinion preload tonight and see what we have.
