I was thinking about the 'Strawberry Creek Trail' up by Tahoe.
Any other ideas? I know there is a Rubicon clean up day planned for the end of September.
Eric from Reno posted a link on another thread (I hope this works) :dunno:

When are you thinking about going? Also, you may have seen that I've decided to go with the MJ. What is Strawberry like? Can longbed stockers make it? Or would I be better off riding with someone?

I was trying to get some input on a weekend that would work for folks. I've never run the trail, but it didn't look that hard. I really don't know how a longbed would do up there. The good news is my Forest Service map shows the trail.

If your talking about the Strawberry Trail from Strawberry on Hwy 50 over to Caples Lake on Hwy 88....you'll have no problem. It's a great trail, with about 3 or 4 minor tough spots, but you should have no problem. We usually take it downhill, from Hwy 88 to Hwy 50...that's the easy way. Try doing it from Hwy 50 to Hwy 88...that should be fun, especially the first few miles on the 50 side. You'll be going up most of the way, a little more challenging.
Great views when you get close to Caples Lake.

Anyone got a weekend preference?

August 28th, 2003, 20:32
I will put in a preference since I have been busy working all summer and will actually have a few weekends to enjoy...how about the 12-14th? And whatever happened to the post about the run to Red/Coyote? I will look a little more and start a new one possibly.

Don't know about the Red/Coyote thread. :dunno: Anyone else able to make the 12th-14th?

What would be the quickest/easiest way to get up there from Fresno, take 88 out of Stockton or go up through Sac. and take your route or expertise?

I'll drive if my Jeep is still all together or look for a ride if it is not, and I'll try the full on camping thing this time too.

Ah, that weekend is out for me. How about the 19th-21st?
I think the easiest way would be to come up to Sac and take Hwy 50 to 42 Mile Tract.

19-21 is even better for me, as long as I haven't started building, or if I've finished. Probably just leave it stock until after.

I could likely go during the 19-21st....and by then I should have more done to make me more trail capable...

Depending on where the run is, the 19th-21st is a good weekend for us, too.
Be aware, rifle deer hunting season opens on the 20th in many areas of N. Calif., and other areas will already be open or will open soon.
I'm not fond of going out during the opening days, too many drunken idiots with buck fever and spare ammo.

Tucker, check out the link at the beginning of this thread for directions/location.
Looks like this trail can be run in one day? Maybe we could start Saturday morning? Then camp at the trails end.

OK, looks like we'll meet at the McDonalds on Hwy 50 and Hazel Ave. @8:00am Saturday morning. Exit at Hazel, go over the freeway and turn left at the light (you can see McDonalds as you're exiting the freeway).

So who's planning on going? I'm going to try to get some rocker protection first, but I'm not afraid if I don't. Someone will strap me if I need it, though, right? Is it a problem that I still won't have a real front tow point yet?
I didn't see any information on camping, should I bring some firewood?

We can use your front bumper. :D Bring the wood. Looks like we'll be camping at one of the lakes at the end of the trail.

Hi guys,
Would really like to do the run with everybody, but have a prior commitment Sat. morning.
Let me know where you are planning on camping and I'll come by, I live just down the road on Hwy 88 by Bear River.

So the plan is to head out from Sac on the morning of Saturday the 20th and run through from 50 to the lake Caples and then camp at the lake Saturday night? I’m thinking about going, but I’m not sure I can yet.
WesternXJ
September 17th, 2003, 19:52
Pete, we're trying for Caples saturday evening.
Mark, that's the plan so far.

Ok, my plan is to go up there Saturday night and find a spot to camp in the first half mile of the trail, and meet up with you guys in the morning. I figure you’ll be up there by 9:30 or 10. Dose that sound bout right? Who else are we going to see? Phil and Sacto is that it? you bringing you co pilot Keven?

I meant to say I’m going up Friday night. That makes more sense.

Hey Mark, did you get any pictures or was your camera out of batteries?
Bronco
September 25th, 2003, 14:24
I think I got some pics but my camera is film style so your gon have to wait for me to go wheelin again and finish off the role.
Phil
September 25th, 2003, 18:06
Oh darn, now you have to go wheeling again. Hate it when that happens. :D
Bronco
September 25th, 2003, 18:14
When are you lifting that thing man? It sounds like when you are done your going to be strapping me over the rocks.
Phil
September 25th, 2003, 23:22
When Billy gets his wheels, Basalt gets his perches welded on, when Keven gets his D44 back, or when a good relatively cheap axle shows up. So December? I'm having a lot of fun just dragging through the rocks though. And I put my other big RE sticker on my door, so between the two I think I've got about a half inch of clearance more than I had.
