noob question again

In my experience, if the transfer hasn't been used in awhile, you shift and then the transfer decides when it wants to shift. Could be anytime from road speed, to releasing the gas pedal, to the next red light or maybe even the next time you shift into reverse. A bit unpredictable.

i wouldnt swithch in to 4wd when your moving, imo your better off to stop, also its a bad idea to run 4wd on dry pavement, you have a direct drive transfer case which means you have no give between the front and back axles, and this could lead to blowing your t-case apart, just my 2 cents

easy check-- crawl under and check tag on TC.

NP242 = shift when you want
NP231 = shift on loose ground and shift out on road.

I never trust what it says on the console until I look for myself-- too many people like me out there "creating" what they want and forgetting to tell you when they sell it to you that it's not factory anymore.

good luck!!
