Ok the company I was working for was starting to lose money because of competition from a store that opened right across the way from them. Word got a round that they were going to try to get rid of me and bring in another assistant that they could pay less...I waited to see what happend, sure enough they started scheduling some other dude and cutting my hours. I had the highest sales since I started working there so I know for a fact that isnt was not based on performance.....So, now im jobless.....I havent been jobless since I was 16(23 now) It just doesnt feel right.....I have been applying EVERYWHERE, mostly every place I apply says they are laying off because its to slow....The desert sucks!! Anyone out here in the desert and now of places hiring? Any info is much appreciated...If things dont start looking up again I will be forced to put the jeep up for sale, AGAIN.....Thanks

What do you do? All I got from your post was "sales".

Do you have a specialty? Past history selling in what kind of market?

Any other skills or talents that are marketable?

I'm actually interested in possibly pursuing a career in Forestry. Anyone know if it's extremely hard to get into? Any of you currently work or know anyone in the field?

What's IBEW?

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Pretty good union, I've toyed with the idea of getting in myself.

Hate unions myself, they take your money and when it comes time to protect your job, they got nothing to say.

Not all unions are created equally.

True true, I was in CWA as well as IBEW, neither lifted a finger to protect my position. GTE and SCE

can't relay on the unions, i just like to prove myself and work hard to stay with the co. I agree, unions take way to much for what thay do.

I am a member of LIUNA local 777 in riverside and I have to say they have prevented me from taking a 50% or greater pay cut over a BS political attempt to get me booted. Without the union I would either have had to take a huge cut in pay or quit, sell my house and move to Kentucky where I could afford to live. I used to be sort of anti-union but now I see what they can do. Granted not all unions are created equal and not all union reps are created equal but in my case they have saved my a$$.

What's IBEW?

IBEW =I Believe In Easy Work, or I've Been Every Where or.......... J/K I've been a Union Sheetmetal worker for 20+ years and work year round. It is slow right now in construction though.

If you can pass the piss test, get in with Scott and learn. Make sure you show up early to work and Do Work. Too many times I get slugs that just want to collect a pay check, they're the ones that get replaced. Take some night classes at the local CC, thats the only way you will get anywhere in life.

An hour each way? They also have plenty of van pools that travel all over So-Cal.

That is what you need to do, don't end up going from job to job.

Could a guy with experience in aircraft electrical find a job starting out around $30/hr? I need a change because being an aircraft mechanic has become very repetitive and monotonous.
