I have a 99 XJ with the D35 and 8.25, I6, 4WD, AW4 tranny. I want to do a 3in lift on it right now and maybe later add a couple more inches. I can't decide what brand suspension parts to go with. I searched this and got mixed results for some brands I had in mind. I don't have the money to go buy all Bilstein stuff so I was thinking Rancho or ProComp. Racho was my top pic, but i'm getting a lot more negative than positive about them. I also hear ProComp just down right sucks. So I was wondering if anyone has any more info on Rancho or can suggest any other brands to me. Thanks for the help.

Wow....ok......first off, no one can tell you what suspension is going to work best for you. There's too many opinions one way or another. I like RE myself, but that's just my opinion and my asshole stinks. You get the idea.....

I am curious to know how you have 2 rear axles in that XJ.

BEWARE - this topic can go on for DAYS!!!!

IMO - Rubicon Express 3.5" Super Flex with either Old Man Emu or the RE Mono Tube Gas Shocks. Best kit out there for the money. You can run a nice 31" tire with NO trimming and have a very capable rig.

Call Dave at Northridge 4x4, he'll hook you up.

yeah are you sure it isnt a d30?

i would personally buy anything from rubicon express. their products are great. dont go with procrap or rancho. you can kinda tell for yourself what kits are best. just look at what you are getting with it. aal, block, spacers, control arms, ect. stay away from lift blocks, aal, and coil spacers over an inch or two. Then once you know what you are getting in the kits you can search for questions like " how strong are RE control arms" . you may even what to mix and match parts from different companies. Hope this helped.

I did the same thing you're wanting to do on my '98 XJ. Started with the RE 3" kit and went up to 6" a couple years latter. I went with RE and have been very, very pleased. RE ranks real high with the guys at the local 4x4 shop as opposed to most other kits they've worked with. They also love BDS with their UNlimited warranty. If you actually plan on wheeling I'd go with one of those two brands.
my .o2.... dn

if you do wind up with an RE kit try to splurge on the superflex joints they are fantastic

gotta pay to play. The pricer stuff isnt always miles and miles better, but you can pretty much guarantee any of the el cheapo stuff is pure 100% crap. Stick to middle of the road stuff for best value. Reason people are telling bilstein is they are good, same with old man Emu OME. RE make a good value kit for what your looking for just save up a bit more. Rancho can be rough riding, pro comp is pure crap. If your set on rancho or pro comp go with rancho.

I read this and felt that I must chime in, and lay down the rules of lift. All of my 93ThumperXJs springs and shocks(Even the steering shock) are Old Man Emu, and they friggen RULE, My control arms upper and lower are RE Superflex, and they RULE, My Sway bar discos are JKSIIs, and THEY rule, My Track bar is a MORE unit, coupled to a Kevins Offroad bracket, and IT rules, yadda yadda ect. My whole point is, dont try to be savin any cash unless you like easily worn out or broken components out in the boonies. Also, if I DO lift more, (Im at a straight four inches now) Ill be using RE. They RULE. Do yerself a favor and pony up for one of thier complete kits, with FULL spring packs. Youll thank yerself later.

I went with skyjacker 3" with jks discos, rusty's 1" drop crossmember, and monroe shocks from napa. the kit is pretty good, but I did have to return a rear leaf spring, as it was not arched correctly. rides well, and gives a good look. of course now I want more lift, so I will probably upgrade it with spacers, shackles, and long arms. I wish in hindsite that I had bought the RE kit, as it seems to provide more than the advertised lift. Beware that with a 99, you will most likely need to put in a slip yoke eliminator to avoid tearing up your driveline.

I went with rubicon express 4.5 super flex kit and Iam very happy with it. The 3.5 kit would be just as good . There was several reasons I went with R.E. 1) Quality, 2) Jeepin.com has the best price,3) You can add to your excisting kit with out starting over.

I don't think Rancho even makes a post 96 lift for the xj anymore. Had their 3" years ago and liked the stiff suspension (bought full rear leafs) because of all the twists in the road on my commute. Running front and rear lockers I didn't need a whole lot of articulation for what I did. Have the RE 4.5 now, and my only complaint is not getting the 5.5.

my suggestion would be to keep looking. if you already know that you are going to want a total 5"-7" then try and hold out and do your lift once. in the long run you will be happier that way. not to mention save a few for the pocket book. RE has good stuff but just to be different I went with RK 6.5 long arm. since everyone in my area runs mainly RE lifts. those are the only brands that i can comment on from personal experience. i cant recommend what kind of shocks to get since i use the ones that came with my kit.

Sorry, I ment D30. Sounds like RE is a popular choice. To get a kit from them though, i'd have to put my lift off tell next spring or summer. I'll check some stuff out and see what I can come up with. I think I wanna run 33/12.5's. I put 32/10.5 on my stock suspension and I fit them. No rubbing when I turned. Only problem is, I couldn't go over a speed bump. With that in mind, I think I should be able to fit 33/12.5's on a 5.5in lift. What do you guys think? I'm going to stay away from Rancho and ProComp. RE and OME seem to be the top 2 brands, are there any others right up there. Thanks for the help.

If you do those tires you are gonig to need gears and backspaced rims.
lets not forget the sye
oh but you searched so you would know that stuff

formulate an opinion and go with that.

IMO - JKS arms, RE springs, JKS disco's.
good luck
keep searching
and start reading.

noobs :wave1: welcome to the dark side of obsession

Edit:BTW bend is beautiful I was there last year, didn't want to come home...

dont go procomp... I went with the pro-comp 3'' kit and even though its never broken or let me down it has poor flex compared to other kits (which I dont really need right now DD)... its a rough ride with the aal (which I dont mind... firm in corners) and it was cheap (thats a +)...

but everyone gives procomp the procrap title because of reasons I have not found yet... I wont tell you its better than other kits because I dont know and Im sure its not... but it is better than RC imo and for the money and for what I do with it... it works...

Go RE or RK...

If you install several Pro Comp lifts you'll see why they're crap. Quality control in that company is virtually non-existant. The Jeep stuff bolts on pretty easy for the most part, but every lift of theirs I've put on full size trucks needed some modifications. Peices were the wrong dimensions, holes didn't line up, yadda, yadda, yadda. Plus the ES3000 shocks are stiffer than an old man on viagra.
