So i just read that you can replace/relocate the air filter to accomidate a second battery under the hood.
First off
  • I heard you could not do this
  • Would rob air flow to engine if moved
Now the solutions
  • Is there a kit that you can buy to do this
  • Anyone have pics of this kind of mod
  • how to do this
Thanks for the help

You can do this, if you buy into the K&N filter setup it should improve airflow, but thats another debate. There are kits that give you the Diesel XJ battery tray and the K&N or like filter. Theres also a mod that puts the cone filter in an enclosed can and runs up to a snorkel. http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/technicalfiles/JAairIntake/AirIntake.htm

You could also put the battery in the cargo area, I have dual 7 Cell Optima Blue Tops in the back, works great.

i think ill look into the desiel battey holder option.

Cant put battery in back because i am putting a sub box in the back that takes up the whole back cargo area.

What do you think i should do??

Well if you decide to go with the K&N or like filer just be aware that you are at greater risk of sucking water as there is no box to protect it, for the same reson, if you wind up in the mud it has a tendancy (at least I have heard) that it will clog more easily than on in a protected box. Wait for some people to post up who actually have these filters. http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/technicalfiles/ARbattRelocation/BattRelocation.htm
When you add a second battery its a good idea to put it on an isolator or the cheaper option is to rig some good quality solenoids. Take a look around the usual websites for a kit. Don't just link them directly together, its no good for the batteies if they are of different age and build.
