door handle rust

Looking to replace my rusty doors and was wondering if there was a year where they figured out the design flaw and stopped the rust from around the handles. Also was wondering if all years will fit, I have a '90 and my wife doesn't like the wings and wants the newer 1 window design. Thanks

'97 was the year of changes. The door vent windows were dropped and plastic door handles appeared.

Are you saying that '97 up doors are a direct replacement? did the plastic handles cure the rust issues?
