what temp. to heat cast iron inner C's 4 welding

Gonna weld my D44 inner C's back on, after rotating them. I have a digital thermometer and I plan on pre-heating the cast iron before I weld.

What temp. should I go to?

Do you think I should use the torch to let them cool slowly?
