Well my XJ probley isent going to last much longer... so I have been looking for a new (used) vehicle and Im thinking about a Wrangler... Well a local Chrysler dealership near me has one that they just got in and it is awesome looking... all black, tan soft top, probley like 4.5'' lift, 33 thornbirds (could fit 35s), black rockcrawler wheels, warn flares all that good stuff... and they want like 9500 for it (97, 117000, 5 spd, sahara) and the price isent outragously bad so I am considering taking it for a test drive and talking with them about a trade in for my XJ... but then I remebered I wanted to look at the axle and stoped by today and it has a D35 in it... and I dont know if I wanna get a nice, big jeep like that if I have to worry about axle problems...
here are some pics...

I would pass. Half the fun is building it yourself, and knowing it was done right.

I agree with both of you but my head is thumpin right now with my jeep, and if I get a stock used wrangler it will be forever until I get it paid off when I can start lifting it and all that great stuff...
the reason I want to do it this way is then it will be all ready to go, with alot of what I want already... there could be problems but there could be problems with the stock one too...

Regardless of what we say, you are gonna do what you want; it sounds like you want this one. You could always swap in a D44.

Your right but I appriecaite some guidence, and Im nervous about buying a vehicle and getting a loan so it helps to have a seasoned vet around to sort through the details...
and I was thinking about the D44 aswell...

for that matter you could probably do an 8.8
I think that MORE offers a TJ 8.8 bracket kit.

If you get it make sure you ditch the D35 and the Thornturds.

I like how when you guys dont like something you put some form of poop in it:
dana turdy-five, skycrapper, thornturds, Pro Crap never fails to make me laugh...
an 8.8 wouldnt be a bad idea plus it would be alot easier to get in my area...
but yea it probley isnt a rock crawler or a beast in the mud as it sits but I love the looks of the thornbird/turds and I would run them until there shot or I need some offroad ability ;)

Then why are you so concerned about finding a pre-built one? Its all about the looks, thats why you like this one. I still say hold out for a better one.
In my experience with buying used vehicles, a private seller will usually give you a better price than a dealer or used-car lot, and you are also more likely to get a maintenance history.

are you going to wheel it?

are you going to wheel it?
Well were Im at here in PA my idea of wheelin' and yours are probley two completly different things... the kinda wheelin I would be getting into is more trail riding than anything just muddy trails with small rocks, trees, and water crossings and alot of snow wheelin... no rock crawlin or anything... so if thats what your asking then yes but I wouldnt do anything to hardcore until I got a better axle... and most of the time it would be my DD/Mall Crawler because dont wheel that often... well, havent.
