I didn't want to hijack the "Which political party are you?" thread, so I decided to post this here.

The fact that someone actually stands by the attacks on NYC for a "group trying to combat the spread of American capitalistic world domination" is too far beyond me.

Well, America hating is nothing new. Neither is America acting to support its interests. Nor would I discount the influence of 'corporate America' on 'political America.' That, likewise, is nothing new. I do believe (hope) that eventually the recent program to privatize the Armed Forces and the Executive Branch will be found to be laced with embarrassing ties back to Cheney and his friends.
That said, I support the war. Not because of oil prices or spreading democracy. I simply believe that Iraq is our mess. This war is primarily the result of 40 years or so of somewhat inept foreign policy concerning the Middle East.
OTOH, that film is pretty funny. If there is a class teaching propaganda, that little piece of work right there would get high marks. The script, in detail, is irrelevant. The 'facts' presented are for the convenience of the principal intend of the piece. The intent of the piece was to provide a vehicle to associate a string of words and phrases of negative connotation to America. It's a nicely done bit of subliminal advertising.

Maybe the proliferation of information on the web makes some of this stuff more accessible. But it's nothing new. Think of the stupidest, lyingest, damfoolest, craniorectally-inverted piece of political poop you can imagine; right, left middle or somewhere beyond planet X. You can bet some group has it as a guiding principle.

I agree them spin rep's could realy take a liking to a piece like that.
There are classes on propaganda, ours, theres, everyone that has a point to spread has one (if they admit it or not), and how to counter it or midagate it. Thing about propaganda is the one that gets thier message out first wins the basis for the 'Facts'. Then everyone else has to prove them wrong, and play catch-up. Catch-up is the part that is the most costly.

much of the world dislikes us because we are succesfully continuing a thriving democracy, set up by our founding fathers who were for the most part, christians. they just can't figure out why we are so great and so young as a country. i think it really hacks them off, it;s the can't see the forest because the damn trees are in the way. so it boils down to jealosy of our success and hatred toward a christian country. it really is that simple, we don't like to admit it, because deep thinkers like to make things complicated to hide the truth, in any subject really. just think about history, the romans killed the christians, and jews, fast forward to hitler and he did the same thing. now radical middle eastern fanatics think it's their turn. oh and most of these lunatics hate FREEDOM, i'm not sure why, but you can't explain all criminal behaviour. all the best criminals are smart, deep thinkers of simplistic narcisism. now there's an oxy moron to think about.

Look on the bright side, the world only hates half of America.
Which half are you?

Well, you gotta admit: We've been stepping out to center stage in a big way lately. Good or bad can be debated here, but we are a pretty effin' big target.
That aside, Bin Laden doesn't care crap about Islam. He's power hungry and being from where he's from he's using what he has at hand - a bunch of people easily isolated on the information front who feel they've been wronged, either because they have been wronged or that's the info they've been given. If Bin Laden had been born in the Mid-West US he'd be running some Koresh compound or a perverted polygamist petapheliacs paradise. It's more about power than it is about religion, although religion is always a convenient and powerful tool. The same goes for the Taliban and all these Islamic holy men declaring Jihads. They're all using the most obvious tool at hand to shape their own personal power plays.
The folks who made this little gem are doing the same thing, except the tool at hand to them is information technology bent to promote their own agenda: fuel their own power play. They create and exert power by influencing American politics and shaping America's interests through propaganda instead of violence. The goal is very much the same all around: accumulate power. The means are easily justified by the goal.

American foreign policy for the last 50 years has been 'Carry a Big Stick and Use It A lot and Yell Really Loud at Anyone Who Objects.' Are you saying that's caused some animosity?

haha i sense i have just a LITTLE more backup in this thread then the other one.....
Do we really need a thread asking why there is a declining global view of America? Like, politcal position aside, can you honestly not make a conjecture as to the possible causes of that?
I mean, i cant think of anything that would lead to increased hatred towards america.....thinking.....thinking......nothing.... ....oh wait
Iraq war
Soldiers in a jillion countries
Leader looking like an ass
Complete disregard for UN (however important it is anymore is besides the point)
Complete disregard for opinions of the rest of the world*
our failing education system
ignorance of masses towards the world as a whole
our CONSUMPTION
Lil Jon
even if you support all these things, which is fine, cant you see how what we are doing might not look great? I mean, put aside beleifs for a second, we arent exactly going for popularity here. Were sending out party treats but they blow the F**k up when you open them.
*This point is completley void, as we have had an immensly successful Coalition of the Willing in our support.

Let’s see…
We send billions in aid to foreign countries
We have people dying trying to get into our country, legally or illegally
Every time there’s a natural disaster, who’s the first to show up?
The US of A
And with what?
Our military.
We get screamed at because we didn’t send troops to some shithole African country to stop the latest genocide AND we get screamed at because we sent some troops to some shithole African country to stop the latest genocide BUT we chose the wrong side.
You know what, let’s pull all our troops back to within our borders, quit sending out billions in aid, quit sending corn to other countries to feed the starving masses, let Africa and Asia solve their own AIDS epidemic, and start converting all the excess corn and wheat we produce to ethanol to drive OUR cars. No more foreign students can attend our high schools and universities. Let the UN play World Cop without the support of the US. And lets start worrying about our own for a change.
F*** the rest of the world.

i wish we could do what karstic said, too bad that that could never happen.
IF for a day, we could, i think the rest of the world would see how much they depend on us, however i think we would see how much we depend on the rest of the world.
todays society is a global economy. theres no way around that, there just simply isnt a way to produce everything we need as a nation and maintain the status that we are at now. and i agree, we should give less aid to people and let them see how much they need us, and use that extra cash to help get the homeless jobs, or at least better/more shelters.
as for the "failing education system"
why are we failing, because we dont have 3 billion people in our nation like china does, so we cant pump out 600,000 engineers a year, or india with its billions of citizens, pumping out 450,000 engineers a year,
i dont see how our system is failing, every nation has the millions that cannot succeed in school and education, these are the people who become the backbone jobs, such as factory workers, assembly line attendents, clerks, drivers, etc. even construction workers. now whose to say that these people are dumb, or that our system failed them, without them we wouldnt have a nation, which is why it is good that not everyone in the nation is a rhode scholar.
again i think many problems would be solved if america could just STOP dealing with foreign nations (following the advice of our 1st president in his farewell adress) but we cant, so we must keep sending troops in to quarreling nations, and send troops to aid in the spread of democracy,
IM sorry, call me what you want but i would rather be hated by many small nations that rely on our support than be disregarded by a huge nation spreading ideals contradictory to those of AMERICA

Our education system is failing for two reasons. Entitlements and lack of parenting.

Karstic: You took the words right out of my mouth!!! There is a whole generation that's motto is DGAF. If you don't know what that means find your average high school kid and ask them. Its the Flat Biller / Bro attitude. The sad thing is , Its not completly thier fault. Parents need to start GAF about what their kids are into. my .02

Actually Eisenhower warned of just such an occurance, it was dubbed the "iron triangle" i think, wherein the war machine funds it's own politics and policies. And it is going on now, but not just in the war profiteering clique. Lobbyists of all sorts are now heading government agencies that used to regulate the industries the lobbyists originally came from.
Anyone who believes America is now, or ever was a 'democracy' in the strict definition of the word, is fooling themselves. This country was bought and sold a long time ago........if you think not, just try going up against money and power, say Walmart, or DuPont Chem.,..........even if you're on the side of common sense, money will change the 'common' perspective. How else could we have gotten into a war, that no one honestly believed was justified? How else could a country with 5% of the worlds population be using40% of its resources? Just another case of "Mission Accomplished" for big money........
----all that being said, i still don't 'hate' America, I'm an optimist, really.....you might as well try hating Sun Tzu for writing "The Art of War".
