OK, so I replaced the front 30 in my '96 XJ with a 30 out of a '97 TJ. Everything went really well until I put wheels on and did test drive. The rotors are grinding on the knuckles. I've tryed both the rotors I got with the TJ and my XJ rotors on it and still grinds.I posted this in the modified tech section and someone said the '97 TJ and the '96 might have different WMS measurements.I measured and they are the same, and I checked and they used the same part number for the rotors and unibearing hubs. The only part # difference is on the break caliper, which by the way I still have the XJ calipers on. Realy have hit a dead end and would appreciate any wisdom, suggestions, smartass cracks about anything I may have overlooked. Thanks

dunno know why that's happening....
Off Topic....Why did you want the TJ axle under your XJ? I'm thinking your '96 is a HP D30.....TJ's is LP D30??? I've got a '96 HP D30 waiting to go under my '01.....

can you see where it is grinding? Its not hitting the rotor backing plates is it? (they bend really easy)

Yea the TJ is LP and the XJ was HP, Id swap the stuff into the HP.

Huh...spindles, bearings everything is from the tj? sounds like you have some old style bearings mixed up in there somehow...to make the rotor sit funny like that...if you have the complete tj set up except the calipers then I guess that would be the problem...take those dust shields off and toss them

Not rubbing on the backing plate, the worst contact is around the center hole. I guess I'll swap the hubs that were in my XJ 30 into it and see if that helps. Reason for swapping hp 30 for lp 30 is that my stock hp needed rebuilt from knuckle to knuckle and and I decided to take it out and build it for a project I've neglected for too long. Found the '97 TJ 30 with a truetrac and since the '96 is going to be a long term daily driver with maybe 2 or 3 inches of lift and 30s or 31s I thought the lp would be fine. It will see no real trail use. The hp 30 is getting 4.56s, ARBs and a few more goodies to match the '87 d44 I picked up last week. Thanks for your time and suggestions. Maybe swapping the hubs will help.

The rotors/calipers are different between the XJ and TJ, its only a fraction but it does make a difference..

Rotors have the same part # at the local Advanced Auto, but then again its not like their computer hasn't been wrong before. The calipers do have a different part #s, so I'll swap them out and see if it helps.

There is a difference between the cast and machined setups

Sorry to sound stupid, but on the rotors or the hubs? Did they change the process at some point or is it just a difference between the XJs and TJs?

hey buddy i had the same prolbem with my XJ. i had bad wheel bearings and got some from the junkeyard off of a 92 XJ. the rotors where rubbing on the inside on the support arm for the calipers. all i did was space it out with some washers huh!!worked fine for me.
