I was browsing for other forums where I might be able to meet some people a little closer to my area and I came across jeepalliance.org. Man that forum is like a ghost town. I see quite a few people from the Rockford area and found a post about <location removed>, near Durand. I'd like to post a reply and get a little meet going for a couple hours of playin in the mud but I don't think anybody checks the site any more. PLEASE don't let NAXJA get like that or I'll go crazy. Just rambling...disregard if you don't care:speepin: .

NAXJA has been around a long time. I don't think that will happen here. It does slow down from time to time, but it always picks back up. JIM.

NIJA is much more of an 'in-person' club than a web one. Leave that to the fact most of the people are fairly close to one another. NAXJA is much more of a 'web' club due to the massive geographic size.

BTW, I live pretty close to you. MagnumCJ does also, but that SeanR...what a douche.

Homeowners Assoc. Say no more.

That is NOT the town...that is a small group in the subdivision that he lives in, he should have known the rules before he bought...I did.

Plainfield is still a farming town....it is starting to go the other way, but as long as the local PD continue to target cars from Joliet and Aurora I am OK with that.

My fault....I ment <locations removed> is just off of Farm School right out side of Dakota. Where in Northern,IL do you live W HOWEY?

I would think all the NIMBY's that live on <locations removed> would call the sheriff in about half a minute ANY muddy jeep runs down the road. They wouldn't want their Chevy Avalanches to get dirty.

I live in lovely Mt. Morris.

Do you drive a Wrangler? I think I remember seeing it at Sam's on my last return trip from the Cliffs. I'm headed there again next month, the 19th if anyone is interested.

We'll have to hook up some time and shoot the shit.

I've contacted the NIJA a couple times but I keep getting the same dick move, "Jeep Only". That's why I hang with the NAXJA crew, they are equal opportunity offenders:) Thanks guys!

Yeah...I like to make a couple passes down <locations removed>every once in a while but Brown Rd by Dakota is better. Thats where it gets real sloppy. They can call the cops but in all reality its still a road and I wouldn't think you could get in trouble for driving on a public road. Any way what capable squad car could make it down the road to chase us any way:moon: . Thats all they would see:D . -Shaun

We used to tear around on those roads when we were in high school.
One of us had a red white and blue, 1976 Pinto.
I had a '48 willys CJ-2a.
I can think of better ways to tear up my junk now....
I would like to see you out run the cops radio, and yes they can get a ticket for all sorts of violations when running up and down those roads, ask my son...

as the membership director of NIJA I can tell you that whowey is right, we're not a big internet chat bunch. most members would rather wheel or wrench then spend time on the puter. we use it mostly for some local tech advice and a way to let other members know that the run schedule is.

I live out by seanR (yeah, what a douche ;) ) and have never been on farm school rd where it is muddy. somehow, I can't see a muddy road as being "legal" wheeling. tearing up a road people use to get home just seems like something that gives us all a bad name.

whereabouts in the area are you at? N. IL is not known for having bountiful wheeling opportunities, just the way it is. if chicago democrats have their way, it won't get better either. :D

I have meet the club at on of thier Jack Wolf meet and greets. Mark I think his name was, the guy with the offroad shop, was the only one who would really talk to me. He said just show up for a run some time. He said all the big guys normally split off and he didn't care if I ran with them. The Pres at the time was the most adiment about it being Jeep only. I just want some cool people with capable rigs to run with. As the red headed stepchild of the offroading world I get to see how all kinds of clubs treat outsiders and I haven't had good experienses with NIJA. FWIW

<locations removed> are both farm roads. No one uses the roads to "go home". The only houses on those roads are One at each end and they dont use use the muddy ruts to get there. I have no choice, no one owns any land that I can use and Im sure as hell not driving hours away everytime I want to get the jeep dirty. The roads we ride on are basically tractor roads filled with nothing but mud and huge ruts. I'll gladly stay off of them if any of you can provide a close, "legal" place to wheel. -Shaun

It's that attitude that makes us that wheel legal, look bad. Please don't do that.

FYI, Talk of illegal wheeling won't make any friends around here, nor is it tolerated.

John-e, I'll put it this way... Maybe sometime around a campfire I'll go into a good bit more detail.

I'm no longer on the BOD over there, and I'm concentrating on ENJOYING my hobby again. Spending time with people whose company I enjoy, and not worrying about how a club is going to look. Remember people may not be exactly how they seem, but they are how they act. For the first time in a couple of years I find myself actually caring if I finish my current Jeep project, and think about how to build the next one.

Locations cleaned. Running a muddy road and causing damage to that road is not legal, nor is it ethical.
We are all fighting to save legal wheeling areas, the last thing we need is some yahoo tearing up a road.
Sorry that legal wheeling requires a drive for you, but that is the hobby, deal with it.

never been there, but I've heard the exact opposite. I heard a lot of the trails were tight and SWB and XJ's were pretty much required. if your talking about just being built up, then I've also heard that it was originally, but they have a lot of milder trails now. NIJA goes there on the first weekend of every month. check the calendar link at the top of the forums for the next one and post up to find out who is going next weekend. be a good chance to meet some of the members and see how nice they are, plus it helps to wheel with others in case you get stuck. as far as being dirty and muddy, the cliffs is muddy even during a drought... you can get as sloppy as you want there and then some. that's why it is seans FAVORITE place! :D

edit: I might mention, you don't have to be a NIJA member to go along on our runs to the public parks like the cliffs and badlands. all are welcome. you do have to be a member to run any private land we go on is all.

Ok Magnum CJ I'll give them another shot. I'll try to make this Saturday at the Cliffs. Are you going?

I found while working on my rig last night that I'm bending my rear axle truss. I pulled the axle last night but I have to rebuild that before I go anywere. If I get that done I'll be out to give NIJA another shot.

no. I'm not going. I'm not a fan of deep mud for one (although I have never been there and will try it once eventually), I'm still building my house for two, and I'm gonna be outta town this weekend for three. :)

I need more hours in the day and more days in a week. or the lottery.......
