Transfer case question

Does any know if a transfer case out of a 95 cherokee (Auto) will fit an 87 cherokee (auto). Mine is not working (242) and I found a 231 for $90. I have a slip yoke in the 242. I presume it will work on the 231?

they have different spline count...91 and up have 23 spline and 90 and lower have a 21 spline..find one more around your year...

not working? what is it doing? they can be rebuilt.
