Sometimes...well most of the time when I try to start the jeep it doesnt turn over right away...
While turning the key, I'll have to slam it into park before it'll turn over or slide the shifter back and fourt until it turns over . The tranny is reading that its not in park right?

What could be causing this? and what can be done to fix it?
Its not really a huge problem to me its more of a PITA than anything.

Oh and it's an '88 auto.

Sounds like your NNS switch. You can take yours out and clean it, or suck the price up and buy a new one.

Okay, I'll clean it tomorow. About how much would a new one run for?

I believe the pricing on those are over $100 bucks. In American dollars. I may be wrong though. Check out Napa, if you have them in Canada.

Dealership here wanted $140 bucks for one. I just slightly adjusted mine and I haven't had a problem since.
