I am getting ready to start building my long arms for my 01 cherokee and I am trying to gather some info before hand. I was wondering if anyone knew the length of the tube on a set of 8 inch lift long arms... also the placment for the upper arms. I am going to use 2 inch, .250 wall DOM... any thoughts?

length depends on where you mount them to the body.

I'm not sure this is the best answer, forums are usually an informational place, and it seems silly to point them to a different website to get information. Call me crazy.

Yesm. The length needs to be whatever you need to get from the mount to the axle and have the axle sit so the wheels are centered in the wheel well.

For reference, mine are 36" long, mounted off of tabs from a custom crossmember. I used 1.75" OD x .188" wall. Using 2" is going to make it a little more difficult to weld around your bushing cradles on the ends. If you're using a johnny or superflex on each end, then it won't really matter.

Thing is ive read the same topic on over 10 forums atleast 2 twice between each of them regarding "building long arms". First question is always the same.... how long for X amount of lift. Same question is asked after that stating, where is best place to mount.... to the frame? to the crossmember? Then goes talks over what peices someone found down at the ole tractor shop. Just really wasnt squashing the guys dreams or his question but just stating that there is quite abit of info out there on this subject. Sadly in the end 90% of the guys asking the questions about this dont even end up building anything.

I won't disagree. Yeah we've all seen the same topics 10 million times, but its the nature of the beast when it comes to forums. Personally I don't think this means that we should say "go search dumbass" in not so many words to these guys though. It kind of puts off a negative impression to those that are new, and doesn't leave NAXJA with too good an image really. Instead, I'd think it better to lightly touch on the question, maybe post a few links, and then mention that searching the forum here should return some good results for information.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but saying "go to google and search" seems to have a couple negative effects. Kinda says, "hey we're not willing to help you so do it yourself, and its also made the suggestion that they should leave this website and go to a different one, in this case, google.

Just my simple $.02 but hell maybe it's not worth anything.

I'll agree with you. If you don't want to repeat yourself or read another thread about a topic that has been covered over and over than hit the back button.
