Hi,

I kind of snuck in the back door, because I'm a ZJ owner... BUT! The transfer case I'm swapping in may be donated by a XJ.

I've got a slight problem, however. The XJ this transfer case (np242) came out of had a Hack N' Tap SYE... Unfortunately, this is not compatible with my ZJ, and I'll need to replace the output shaft (mainshaft?).

My question is... Is it possible for me to rob the shaft from my defunct 249 and swap it into the 242? Is such a thing difficult (if it is possible)? And if it isn't possible, can I pick up a shaft from a tranny shop/dealer, and will it cost me an arm and a leg?

That's about it :)

Cheers,
- trips

Why not use the Hack-n-Tap and an appropriate driveshaft?

Or post on the classifieds section. You might find someone willing to trade you just to get the SYE.

the SYE will do ya' some good down the road.

Any drive shaft shop can make you a good flange-style driveshaft to fit...but what about taking the shaft out of the XJ and using it?
