Got two pieces of great news in one day, how cool is that?

The best news is that my oldest son is going to be stationed (NAVY)fairly close to me in May. He got orders to http://www.nn.northropgrumman.com/bush/facts.html :D I am very proud of the kid, and am glad he got a carrier.

The other good news is that a couple weeks ago, I was asked at the last minute to step in to a job that somebody else abruptly left. Same company I have been working for part time since last year, but different position. I was doing this on an hourly basis at good pay, but just got the word that I have been brought on full time with bennies. The only drag is I have to be up at 4am, walk the dogs, have a couple smokes, and be at my PC with the radio on before 5am. But I do get to work from home. :)

Just thought I would share with my friends... as well as NAXJA. ;)

Share with yer who? :D

At 4:00 AM, I'm still sawin' logs. Sounds like a good thing, though. Beats being unemployed.

Tell your boy good luck, stay safe and on top of the waves.

So he's going to be a plank owner, thats cool ?
If you get another opening like that let me know, I'm getting tired of this 22 hour a week commute.
We're in the process of being bought out and we were told at lunch at Harrys last week that we were going to get equity in the new company so I want to hang around and see what happens for a couple of weeks but otherwise I want out of here.... though I may hang around till the weather warms up like it dide a couple of weeks ago, man, the women around here know how to dress....:scottm:

Yeah, how cool is that? He said they think they will be there for 2 years... I like that. Only a 6-7 hour drive to see him too.

They have a similar opening, but it is in SoCal for a different radio show. Country music though.

You aint kidding about the women in Manhattan. I will miss that aspect of commuting to The City. But I am off at 10a.m. so I can always go gawk if I want. It is close enough.

You for sure have to take the bridge tunnel at least once going down but he can shoot up on the amtrak in like 4 hours right into newark and 12 min to hoboken.
But from being a plank owner he won't have that much free time between schools and actually working on the job. Those were some nasty 16 hour days at electric boat...

Yea, country eh :D Whats their telecommute policy for distance :D :D :D

Yup, I have been to Norfolk before on a job hunt. I actually liked the place. Yup, he knows all about school and free time. By the time he gets out here, it has already been most of a full year in school.

Dunno what the policy is, but I can PM you the link if you want (It is radio, I promise you a big pay cut.. :) ). I have the option of going into the city and working from the studio, or working from home over VPN. Working from home works better for me. :) I would have to use the PATH and subway to get to the studio in time, as the ferry boats do not run at those insane hours.

WOR is here, downstairs. I'm sure you'll suffer thru that 5am start time and working in your jammies with coffee pot and kitchen two steps away...

Thanks. Up until last year, I have always worked at home... for myself. It is nice to have the luxury to do it... and get paid. :)

Congrats for both of you. Your son won't be a plank owner. That is for those prior to christening. I got on the Roosevelt at about the same time. There is still plenty of yard work being done. He will be on shake down cruises and training down in Gitmo for certification. Easy schedules. Newport News is nothing to write home about, but I liked Va. Beach. Carriers are fun, lot's to do. Will it be stationed in Norfolk, or will it go elsewhere?

I wish I could work in my underware:D

Is it actually in production already ?, have to read a bit more about the launch dates and such.

It has already been christened, but has not been delivered to the fleet. There is still much work going on. I lived on my boat in the yard for 9 months after it was christened. Newport News realy is not much fun. Bad part of town. The shipyard itself though, wow. That stuff is amazing. Hope your son has a car. It's the only freedom he will have.

What is your son's rate?
