Just got done watching it. Great first episode. Cant wait for the rest. Too bad that ship had to go over like it did though.
Ive always wanted to do that, and still do even more after watching the first 2 seasons. Maybe I can get on with the Northwesterner, the guy and his boat is from Seattle.

You know, we have a member who was on one of those crab boats for two seasons. If you like the show so much, come to the NWC's upcoming M&G and listen to a story or two.

I don't know if I'd want to crew with Sig. Would be a fun guy to hang out with but man I wouldn't want to be in a small surface with him. His jokes are deadly and he always has a mischievous look in his eye ;)

Really? Which boat.
The NWC M&G's are too far away generally. I propose the next one be in Redondo Beach CA ;)

Really? Which boat.Sorry, not on the show itself, but he did serve on a couple crab boats, and has some hairy stories to tell. :eek:The NWC M&G's are too far away generally. I propose the next one be in Redondo Beach CA ;)We'll take that under advisement. :D

Really? Which boat.
The boat was the Muir Milach, and I only fished red crab once in '99. I also did summer Hake and Cod A season (winter) on that boat, as well as stints on the Tracy Anne, Nerka and Seafisher. Except for the King crab season and Nerka, the rest was trawling, which is a much saner and (relatively) safer way to make a living. Still plenty exciting, especially in the Aleutians in February.
Ive always wanted to do that, and still do even more after watching the first 2 seasons.
If you're serious, I can ask a few friends. Since the fishery is now quota based, its pretty hard to get on a boat, however. :)
EDIT: The only caviat I have is that if you go you will end up with an unreasonable love for big diesel engines. :gee:

When I watch that show I think it would be fun to be on hand for one season... But I'm pretty sure after the thirtieth hour of heavy lifting, freezing, and being tossed around by waves I'd be in curled up in the fetal position in the galley crying like a baby.
Maybe I just need to get hired as a camera man for the Discover channel :laugh3:

HAH! Didn't you see the 'Making of..' episode? I think a cameraman got washed overboard, IIRC - came dang close anyway, if not actually over.

It was only a 6-day season, but pushing pots for 22hrs a day, with 30 min cat naps and very little food kicked my ass completely. The skipper asked how I was doing afterwards (since I was a noob to crabbing, and obviously wrecked), and I replied "I feel like I just came off a bad acid trip, got beat with a 2x4 and thrown down 10 flights of stairs..." :dunce: The deckboss on that trip blew a disc so bad I heard it go 'POP'. He worked the rest of the trip and ate all the morphine on board. :wow:
Once you get into the swing of it, it can be pretty fun, but it was obvious I was 50lbs too small to do it again.
