Fuel Pump Wiring Questions

So, the guy who had the jeep before me used it primarily for trail use only. He was very paranoid about a rollover apparently because he wired the fuel pump into the Oil Pressure Sending unit. Lately I have had a lot of problems with the fuel pump not turning on or running and then shutting off. What would be the best way for me to wire it independtly. I don't really want to go through the fuse block either since it's kinda a mess. Would it be a bad idea to wire it straight of the battery and use a relay in between to turn it on? Any other suggestions.

why not just put it back to stock?
There's already a fuel pump relay, it's controlled by the ECU, wire it to that.
